"The right to life...is absolute,...with no exception whatsoever"

While this understanding of Christian family life finds a deep resonance in Africa, it is a matter of great concern that the globalized secular culture is exerting an increasing influence on local communities as a result of campaigns by agencies promoting abortion. This direct destruction of an innocent human life can never be justified, however difficult the circumstances that may lead some to consider taking such a grave step.

When you preach the Gospel of Life, remind your people that the right to life of every innocent human being, born or unborn, is absolute and applies equally to all people with no exception whatsoever. This equality "is the basis of all authentic social relationships which, to be truly such, can only be founded on truth and justice" (Evangelium Vitae, 57).

The Catholic community must offer support to those women who may find it difficult to accept a child, above all when they are isolated from their family and friends. Likewise, the community should be open to welcome back all who repent of having participated in the grave sin of abortion, and should guide them with pastoral charity to accept the grace of forgiveness, the need for penance, and the joy of entering once more into the new life of Christ.

How right the Holy Father is.

Abortion is a pestilential evil that has helped to perpetrate a moral and demographic catastrophe upon Christendom & the world together with its diabolical twin artificial methods of birth control. Lay, priests, bishops and cardinals who pretend there are exceptions permitting their use provide secular society with specious argument that further propagates the appalling damage that this continues to inflict on society. To those who claim that our civilisation is the most humanitarian of all in history, the millions of undefended unborn babies slaughtered in the womb testify starkly otherwise. Further, many deluded former feminists are gradually waking up from a human nightmare which they have created for women - the womb has become a battlefield for the distorted world view of human rights, that infernal labyrinth of egoism and ideological terror. The womb has also become a medical laboratory for chemical weapons against the life within. Blame has to be apportioned also to selfish men who have abandoned all respect for themselves and for womanhood and its dignity. Once there is God-given life, it is our human responsibility and duty to welcome it with due love and care, no matter the difficulties and inconveniences. In welcoming one of these little ones we welcome our Father in Heaven.

St Gerard Majella - we pray for your intercession and prayers.
