Military Chaplain TLM Update & Purgatorial Society Posting

Rorate Caeli Purgatorial Society (forty-seventh posting of souls)

Continuing with the Military Chaplain theme started last week with Fr. David Smith's war zone photo saying a TLM for the suffering souls enrolled in the Rorate Caeli Purgatorial Society, many questions arose about other Military Chaplains saying the TLM for their soldiers, sailors and airmen. In that vein, I point you to the photo, above.

This shows the very "unreformed" chapel altar of Fr. Charles Johnson of the U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps. Fr. Johnson is based at the Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. He is also one of the first of the 16 priests to sign up for weekly TLMs for the Society. Fr. Johnson also reports that he said the TLM regularly when he was in Iraq. We owe Father a big debt of gratitude for his dedication to our Society and our suffering loved ones in Purgatory.

UPDATE: After posting about Fr. Smith in Afghanistan, many faithful offered to send him altar linens and other wonderful items, for him and his troops in the Royal Army. He deeply appreciates the offers but cannot accept them. What he would like is for our readers to send him Mass intentions. He tells Rorate that while he gladly says Mass for the dead, he loves saying Mass for the living, and doesn't get many intentions while in the desert. If you have intentions, email them to me, and I'll forward them along to Father (athanasiuscatholic AT yahoo DOT com).

Please pray for the enrolled souls and the 16 holy priests saying Traditional Masses for the Society:

"For all the souls enrolled in the Rorate Caeli Purgatorial Society: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the Faithful departed rest in peace. Amen."

Then ...

Almighty and ever living God,
we ask Thy blessing upon the priests
who offer Masses for the Purgatorial Society.
Give them a greater awareness of the grace
that Thou dost pour out through the Sacraments,
and by their devout celebration of the Sacred Mysteries,
increase in them a love for Thee.
Give strength to Thy priests, O Shepherd of the flock;
when they are in doubt, give them the assurance of faith,
and in Thy goodness confirm them as heralds of Thy Truth
to all who seek to follow in Thy path.
We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Eternal Priest,
Who lives and reigns with Thee in the unity with the Holy Ghost,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Is that a black tabernacle veil? Which is not permitted when the blessed sacrament is reserved. (Can't see for certain whether the tabernacle light is lit or not.)

Probably purple as the frontal is purple/violet.

...but then again it might be set up for a Requiem Mass as the candles appear to be unbleached.

I have many relatives and friends enrolled in the Purgatorial Society and hope that these wonderful and respected priests know that we in the church militant owe them a debt of gratitude for thier generosity in offering the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for our loved ones. May I say a loud thank you and know that you are all in my prayers. Does anyone know how many priest offer the Mass? as, if I knew, in my intention I would simply say the X number of Priests who offer the Mass for our loved ones souls.

Thanks Tim for focusing on the GOOD and not nitpicking.

We have 16 priests who say either weekly or monthly TLMs for the Society.

Wow, reading this makes my heart almost explode from an unexplainable inner joy!

Now here we see a true Priest! God be praised :)

I immediately recognized this beautiful Chapel, since my mom and I had the pleasure of visiting Fr. Johnson at Great Lakes not so long ago. Although it can't be seen in the photo, there is also a confessional with screen to the right of the altar and a traditional statue of Our Lady of Grace who welcomes you as you enter.

Thanks to Fr. Johnson, the Blessed Sacrament Chapel is truly a fitting place for Our Lord.

I echo the sentiments of many; thanks for all you do Father - you remain in our prayers!

I too have many relatives, friends, and benefactors enrolled in this Purgatorial Society and I am grateful to the priests who offer Masses for the repose of their souls and to those who pray for them. I am also grateful to the founder and "recording secretary" of the Society.

And my complements on the slightly reworked prayer for our priests. It is beautiful and more explicit in its intentions.

Henry, Father assured me that the tabernacle veil is violet, lest you lose any sleep over it.
