You Report: Reviving the TLM in the eastern part of the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee

Rorate has received the following report from Mr. Stephen Mozier about the monthly Traditional Latin Mass being celebrated in St. Thomas Parish (Quincy, FL) of the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee. This church is currently one of the two parishes of that Diocese where the TLM is celebrated on a regular schedule. (The other one is St. Stephen Church in Pensacola, which has a TLM every Thursday and Sunday.). The first monthly TLM was celebrated in St. Thomas on November 4.

Our 2nd Traditional Latin Mass on December 2 went very well! An official count was made of 55 in attendance, ranging in all ages from young to mature. We even had in worship and fellowship three very welcomed gentlemen from the FSU Anglican Student’s Union/St. Peter’s Anglican parish!

Father Schumm offered an excellent liturgy, with his confidence and greater assurance definitely showing. His insightful homily was on Advent and the preparation that we need to make in our lives for Christ’s inevitable coming. He wore a beautiful purple fiddleback chasuble.

Our next Masses are on Sunday, January 13th and February 10th, both at 9 AM Eastern Time, of course always at St. Thomas Parish in Quincy. This will mark a move to the 2nd Sunday of the month, with further plans for 2013 continuing to be formed and revealed as we move forward throughout the New Year.

In the New Year there will be an article in the diocesan magazine, The Compass, which will certainly help in getting the word out even more ... of course the best promotion will always be by word-of-mouth!  There are elderly Catholics who have heard of this Mass and have expressed a desire to attend, but have no means to travel to Quincy.  In the New Year we are hoping to arrange carpooling so we can minister to them and make sure they can attend.
