I'm moved right now - please God give us what we need and not what we deserve.

Heavenly Father, your Vicar on earth has been chosen. May he be strong, courageous, wise, holy! May he lead Your Church through the storm into calm waters of glory, strength, doctrinal purity and moral goodness! Almighty Father, may he be Your instrument for the Second Counter-Reformation!

Interesting...wasn't their a prophecy about a Jesuit Pope? Just curious & checking my memory!

Cardinal Bergoglio is a Jesuit. According to Wikipedia, he has distanced himself from liberation theology, is against abortion and euthanasia, is inline with the church on homosexuality, declaring that adoption by homosexuals is child discrimination, and has been declared to be 'soft' on social justice issues by some.

Friend of Tradition?

The newsites keep saying he’s the first non-European Pope. Is that right? I’ve assumed that there were Popes from North Africa or the Middle East in the Church’s early years.

No, it is not. There have been at least 11 non-European popes. But the last non-European was Gregory III (from Syria) in the 700s A.D.
