Legionaries: apparently no longer anathema ...

From CWN:

Pope Francis has named Father Fernando Vergez Alzaga, the current head of the Vatican telecommunications office, to become secretary of the Vatican governorate.

Father Alzaga, a Spanish-born member of the Legion of Christ, has worked at various Vatican posts since 1972. At the governorate-- the office that handles the practical affairs of theVatican city-state—he will be the second-ranking official, under Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello.

As secretary of the governorate, Father Vergez replaces Bishop Giuseppe Sciacca, who was named earlier this week to become adjunct secretary of the Apostolic Signatura.

The Vatican announcement of the appointment did not indicate that Father Vergez would be ordained as a bishop, as would customarily be the case for the secretary of the governorate.

This could signal a desire to downgrade the role of the governorate, an office that was at the center of corruption accusations in the “Vatileaks” scandal.

I find this to be great news. The sad part is that I question any decision that comes from Bishop Francis. Bishop Francis revolutionary attitude has the world wondering, in a negative sense. This was a good decision on his part but what surprise will he give us tomorrow?

There are undoubtedly many good men in the Legion of Christ, who are no less priests according to the order of Melchizedek because of the misdeeds of their founder. Many have left the order, and many who remain suffer disillusionment. Personally, I don't like to kick a man when he's down. This will be no exception.

We hope the SSPX soon will no longer be *anathema!*

Not sure what you have been paying attention to over the past 6 months, but the world is not wondering in a negative sense as you say...instead the vast majority is enamored with Pope Francis and his Christ-like leadership.

Agreed!! I pray that SSPX comes back to the Church

Oh, oh, Yionk . I don't think it is a good sign that 'the vast majority is enamoured with Pope Francis....'

Barbara,

Thanks for the note.... I do think it is a positive. Seems to me that the majority of folks that I talk are quite happy with priority being given to the least of our brethren and the fact that Francis is clearly a man of honestly and character... a man after Christ's own heart.

What are you unhappy about?
