Fighting back: The crimes of Atheists have been devastating

From the Easter Message of Anthony Fisher, O.P., the new Bishop of Parramatta, Australia:
God is dead! The new atheists are more right than they realise – and more wrong. More right, because the fact is: God is dead, on Good Friday, dead on a cross. Yet this means there is indeed a god to kill and, despite our doing our worst, Easter shows He lives.

Last century we tried godlessness on a grand scale and the effects were devastating. Nazism, Stalinism, Pol-Pottery, mass murder, abortion and broken relationships: all promoted by state-imposed atheism or culture-insinuated secularism, the illusion that we can build a better life without God.

Atheism stands on poor logical ground.

I propose that we write our legislators to make April 1 as Atheist Day.

Thank you for posting this. My pastor died last year--after Holy Thursday Mass, beneath a statue of St. Joseph, after being annointed--and he made reference to this prayer once in a homily.

We need to remember that, as St. Thomas put it, "the living heart of goodness is love".

    Pax.

The scandal of the practical atheism of many bishops over Humanae Vitae has been and is also currently devastating.

  6. For some strange reason my original comment seems to have gone missing...

Here it is again - may it please those running this blog to admit it, of their charity.

I must protest against one commenter: to accuse Bp Fisher of "practical atheism" is risible (as well as a sinful thing to say) - I know Bp Fisher personally, and he certainly and wholeheartedly accepts Humanæ vitæ, and just as certainly opposes contraception.

Commenters can too airily declare "What I would do if I were Pope"!

As for the confused argument about legislation - well, of course Bp Fisher and other orthodox Catholics and other persons of good will would wish that abortion not be legal in Australia, but it is alas; any legislation that restricts it is better than any that extends it.

To think that a Catholic cannot lobby for legislation restricting abortion would be an error.

I respect Fr Fleming and Bp Fisher as orthodox Catholics and expert moralists.
