The rector of the Chiclayo Cathedral in the years when Robert Prevost was diocesan ordinary, Fr. Jorge Millan Cotrina, lived with other priests in the residence of the bishop, now Pope Leo XIV, for 8 years.

He was interviewed earlier today by a famous Argentine radio interviewer (YouTube video embedded in the end here, in Spanish); the interviewer pressed him on regarding "LGBT issues." 

After making clear that these "LGBT" issues really are irrelevant in Chiclayo, unlike abroad and in the Peruvian capital Lima, the priest was firm: "He [Leo XIV] knows very well what is the teaching of Christ" on such matters; "he showed it to us in his homilies; I never heard from him one sentence in favor of all these novelties. Rather, he was always a man who tried to put realities in the proper place."

 Perhaps no accusation against the rite of the Latin Church for over 17 centuries (the naturally developing Traditional Latin Mass), in its various local and order-specific rites and uses, is more ridiculous than that it is “ideological”, or that the people who attend it are “ideologically motivated”.

No, they are just people who want to worship Almighty God as He had been worshiped in the West basically since Mass started being celebrated in Latin. They are the very opposite of ideological: they are humble enough to want to be part of a very long line of Catholics.

The committee-created pseudo-liturgical concoction known as the “New Order of the Mass”: now THAT is something else, something clearly motivated by a man-centered ideology, falsified history, and a myriad of modernist causes. 

And it reached its inevitable end game in the most symbolic Catholic building in what still is the most powerful country in the world, the city that is the headquarters of the very United Nations whose existence filled with a false hope for a “better future” the conciliar fathers of Vatican II.

In the Cathedral of this “capital city of the modern world”, the venerable Saint Patrick’s on Fifth Avenue, the epitome of Vatican II and the Novus Ordo: the Whore Service ("Funeral de las Putas"). The New York Times had a good summary of the event:

The Declaration Fiducia supplicans on the pastoral meaning of blessings issued on December 18, 2023 by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith marks one of the lowest points of Pope Francis' pontificate. Indeed, this document, contradicting Church doctrine, approves and in fact promotes the "blessing" of "couples" living in an intrinsically immoral situation, with a special focus on homosexual couples. 

To understand the origins of what happened, one must go back to the early 1970s, when, on the wave of the 1968 Revolution, but also of the post-conciliar "new morality," forms of "openness" to homosexual relationships began to spread in the Church. According to traditional doctrine, the sexual act is in itself, by its very nature, ordered to procreation and is good only if it takes place within marriage, without being diverted from its purpose. Instead, for the new theologians, the sexual act is always good because it constitutes the most intimate and intense moment of human love, regardless of whether or not it is ordered to procreation, whether or not it takes place within marriage, and whether or not it involves men and women of different or of the same sex.

Belgian Cardinal and Bishops Approve Liturgy for “Same-Sex Unions”

Archbishop Léonard, of Brussels-Mechlin, was one of the most conservative voices of the Church in Europe. That was enough for the petty, vengeful, small little man currently occupying the throne of Peter to not only not make him a Cardinal, but accept his retirement (unusually for a major Archbishop) as soon as he reached 75. For his place, Francis named an extremist liberal, a disciple of one of the greatest perverts ever to occupy a European see (Danneels), Jozef de Kesel. And, of course, Francis created him Cardinal as soon as possible.

Now, de Kesel has arrived decisively at what he was named to do: the bishops of Belgium are to visit Rome in the upcoming days for their Ad Limina visit and, just in time, de Kesel led the Flemish bishops in approving a special "liturgy" with prayers for the blessing of homosexual unions.

Cardinal Tobin instructs whistleblowers to shut up

A letter from Joseph Cardinal Tobin, archbishop of Newark, was sent to all archdiocesan priests on Friday following an explosive investigative report earlier that day on former Newark Archbishop Theodore McCarrick and a homosexual subculture that still exists in northern New Jersey, from the seminary to the priesthood.  The report, by Ed Condon of Catholic News Agency (CNA), featured six priests from within the archdiocese speaking on background for the story.

Tobin's letter of response, according to CNA, stated "no one -- including the anonymous 'sources' cited in the article -- has ever spoken to me about a gay subculture in the Archdiocese of Newark."

The Catholic Herald today highlighted a very important point made in the cardinal's letter.  In it, Tobin instructed clergy not to speak to the media, a remarkable reaction considering the cardinal's extreme friendliness with reporters who swoon over his breaks from Church teaching and tradition.

Instead of speaking on background or on the record with reporters about what they have witnessed in the Archdiocese of Newark, Tobin said priests should send any media inquiries to the archdiocese's communications office.

Rorate tried, earlier this year, to work with that office.  It is where investigative journalism goes to die.

After Cardinal Tobin sent a tweet that said: "Nighty-night, baby.  I love you" while boarding a plane in February, the tweet was widely reported before Tobin deleted it. He claimed it was meant to be a text message to his sister. The media did almost no follow-up on the bizarre explanation, instead believing every word the cardinal said, as if it was perfectly normal for a 65 year old man to write like that to his sister.

That same month, this writer contacted the director of communications for the Archdiocese of Newark, following the protocol Tobin dictates.  Questions were as follows:

1) Which of the cardinal's sisters was the writing intended to reach when accidentally tweeted?
2) Were they texting immediately prior to the cardinal's flight, and is there proof of any such texts? (If so, will those texts be released?)
3) Will the respective sister be confirming any such texting back and forth before the flight?
4) Has the cardinal addressed his sister as "baby" before this incident? (And will she confirm this?)

Op-Ed, by Fr. Cipolla: "Uncle Ted: The Homosexual Subculture of Bishops & Priests is as large as ever"

One would have to be a hermit not to know about quondam Cardinal McCarrick’s precipitous fall from grace.  The New York Times, probably with great relish, ran three stories on McCarrick’s other career as “Uncle Ted”, sexual predator of young men.  The story was taken up by the whole mediasphere for at least a week and still continues at this writing. The Church, thanks be to God, acted swiftly, stripping him of his public ministry, removing his membership in the College of Cardinals, and planning a trial in the Vatican in the future.  The secular press often wonders how such a man could have been promoted to the very highest levels in the Church.  But that sense of wonder masks an assumption that moral corruption in the Catholic Church is far and wide among its clerics. 

The fact is that many priests and bishops knew about McCarrick’s predatory behavior for years.  Even I, a simple parish priest from Connecticut, heard from priests in the know  about Uncle Ted and his exploits. The question then still remains:  why did he rise so high in the hierarchy when so many people, including those in Rome, knew his sordid history?  Those in charge of making bishops cannot claim ignorance given the paper trail of payments paid to settle accusations made against him.  So the obvious conclusion is that it is true that moral corruption has infected the Church at all levels.

"Uncle Ted McCarrick" no longer a Cardinal

He should have never been admitted to seminary. He should have never been ordained a priest. He should have never been in contact with boys and young men. He should have never been called to be a bishop. He should have never been made Archbishop of the capital of the most powerful nation in the world. He should have never been made a Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church. He should have never been allowed inside or anywhere near a Conclave for the election of a new Roman Pontiff.

Theodore McCarrick has been removed, too late, from the College of Cardinals, by a decision of Pope Francis prompted by a "letter of resignation" that McCarrick was certainly "advised" to send before being kicked out. He was also barred from the exercise of any public ministry.

Archbishop Víctor Manuel “Tucho” Fernández, rector of the the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina in Buenos Aires and ghostwriter for Pope Francis, has a long track record of modernist theological writings that stretch long before he penned Amoris Laetitia, Evangelii Gaudium, or Laudato Sii for the Argentine pontiff. We recently published a translation of Tucho's latest defense of the most heterodox assertions that can be derived from Amoris Laetitia. Besides his articles in the 1990s criticizing John Paul II's teachings about intrinsic evils, which it appears he sloppily copy-pasted into Amoris Laetitia, Tucho's perhaps most revealing writing is his infamous 1995 book, whose contents are as sleazy, inappropriate, and absurd as its title: Heal Me with your Mouth: The Art of Kissing.

The sensuality in the picture was palpable. Two attractive young men, heads together in a tender moment, against a backdrop of lush farmland. “Crude beauty of a Yorkshire’s shepherd’s gay awakening,’’ the headline proclaimed.The film review of God’s Own Country praised one character’s “respect for intense vulnerability’’ and “depth of love’’. The hint of homo erotica was clear. The sex scenes, readers were promised, were “very graphic’’. Foremost of the film’s themes, readers were told “is the difficulty of living as a gay man in a culture or family where it is not readily accepted.’’ When it comes to sexuality, “culture can be flexible where dogmatic religion cannot.’’

A day earlier, amid Australia’s scorching debate on an upcoming national plebiscite on same-sex “marriage’’, the same online magazine had nailed its colours firmly to the “Yes’’ campaign with two articles. One, entitled “Inside the 'glass closet' of a gay Catholic teacher’’, was written by a religion teacher in a Catholic school. He described his “hurt’’ at needing to conceal his sexuality and his partner’s identity on Facebook, lest “the wrong student or parent catches whiff of our supposedly un-Christian behaviour’’.

On the same day, the magazine carried a related article headed “A credibly Christian church would respect gay employees’’. It was accompanied by a drawing of the rainbow flag.  “The credibility of Catholic organisations as Christian and as humane is at stake,’’ it argued. “It would be inconceivable for Catholic based organisations to dismiss people who contract gay marriages. It would both be inconsistent with their own tradition and would make it impossible for them to commend that tradition to their own members of staff.’’ Its author was Father Andrew Hamilton SJ, consulting editor of the magazine, EurekaStreet, a publication of the Australian Jesuits.

The image from the Circo Massimo is unmistakable: on this "Family Day", a huge multitude of Italian families (including many friends of this blog) gathered to protest the government's support of the counternatural bill.

Tomorrow [today] Francis will not meet the President of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI) as planned. He was not pleased at being drawn into Italian political issues. Jorge Mario Bergoglio has eliminated Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco from his agenda of official meetings, so, [there will be] no audience tomorrow morning. The private meeting fixed a week ago by the permanent Episcopal Council, appeared and then disappeared from the internal “Bollettino - Prefettura della Casa Pontificia". The is the umpteenth episode and perhaps the most clamorous, which sanctions the distance between the Church of Francis and the Church of the Bishops presided over by Bagnasco himself.

The Diabolical Communion:

Homosexuality on the threshold of the Synod: Two Conferences in Rome.

Homosexuality is per se outside of the topics of discussion at the Synod convened to discuss matters of the family.  But in fact it was present in a powerful way in the debates themselves.  According to the media hype, the dominant leanings in the Catholic world are for a radical change in the doctrine and practice of the Church, with the full acceptance of the practice of homosexuality and with the blessing of unions between persons of the same sex.

But there are also others who want to take a new path with respect to the pastoral ministry to homosexuals that is firmly based on Catholic doctrine.  Both these approaches will be represented in Rome in these feverish days before the Synod.

The first approach will have its moment in the sun on Saturday, October 3 at the international conference with the title “Ways of Love:  Snapshots of Catholic Encounters with LGBT Persons and their Families”.  The program in Italian, English and Spanish can be found at waysoflove.wordpress.com.  LGBT is an acronym for Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual.  At this meeting in Rome, they explain, they will initiate “a global network of LGBTQI Catholics”, extending the acronym to include “queer” and intersexuals.  Their stated objective is “a Catholic Church in which the whole people of God—LGBT and heterosexual persons—can live, pray and offer their service together in harmony”. Speakers at the conference include Mary McAleese, the former president of Ireland, José Raúl Vera Lopez, Bishop of Saltillo in Mexico, himself a Dominican, the Jesuits Pedro Labrin from Chile and Pino Piva from Italy, the American Sister Jeannine Gramick and the Italian Sister Anna Maria Vitagliani, Martin Pendergast from England, Rungrote Tangsurakit, from Thailand, and also “a priest who works in Africa whose anonymity was requested by his superior”.

While browsing through the e-mails and letters which have been accumulating during my recent vacation, certain concerned letters immediately caught my attention. For example: “Why does the Catholic Church condemn homosexuals?” asks one female author. Thanks be to God, concerning those homosexuals one can read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church this simple sentence: “One must be careful not to discriminate against them unjustly in any way.” I therefore can – and therefore do – give an initial answer to this concerned woman: It must not at all come to a condemnation of homosexuals within the Church.

The Archbishop of Hamburg, Stefan Heße, has called upon his Church to have more realism with regard to the moral teaching on sexuality. “We have to look upon the manifold ways and forms of living in which people live, as they now exist,” said the 48-year old to the Koelner Stadt-Anzeiger  on Saturday. He, “of course,” also sees “same-sex couples entering the Metropolitan Cathedral of Hamburg, and nobody asking them to leave.”
