Rorate has always been a proud supporter of these mission trips. Below, please see a short write-up, provided by a reader:
It is easy to get discouraged by all the
maddening news that seems to come out about the Church on a daily basis.
Especially for orthodox, conservative, traditional-minded Catholics it can be
extremely frustrating when we get characterized as rigid, sick, or elitist. If
you are not already aware of it, I want to draw your attention to an apostolate
that both destroys these stereotypes and hopefully represents a real sign of
hope for the future of the Church.
For five years now the Saint
Francis Xavier Mission Trip of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter has been
organizing missions for youth and families. On the one hand we could emphasize
that these missions are rooted in the Traditional Latin Mass, but it may be
better to simply say that these missions are grounded in the Catholic Faith,
which has always had at its heart the Traditional Latin Mass.
These missions
gather young people and families from across the country and even from
different countries to give of themselves by practicing the corporal and spiritual
works of mercy and most importantly to spread knowledge and love of the
Traditional Latin Mass. Through this experience of bringing the traditional
liturgy to people so hungry for a real encounter with Christ, we are forced to
realize that our love for the Mass is not simply because it is beautiful, but
also because it is universal, timeless, and efficacious.
The crisis in the Church can
make easily forget how blessed we are. The Saint Francis Xavier Mission Trip
gives missionaries the chance to serve those living in true physical and
spiritual poverty, and, very often, can make us realize that perhaps we are
poorer spiritually than we may have liked to think.
This year we have four missions
in Peru and in Mexico. Please consider joining this great effort, either in
person or through your donation, but most especially through your prayers.
