Rorate Caeli

"It is due to the express counsel of Pope Benedict XVI...

...that I am come amidst you."

Words of the Primate of the Gauls, Cardinal Barbarin, during a ceremony of Confirmation (according to the Traditional rites of the Roman Church) today in Lyon.

Signo te signo Crucis + et confirmo te chrismate salutis...

  1. The line you quoted from the rite has a lovely spondaic elegance to it.

  2. Crumbs, tired of crumbs.

  3. Anonymous6:01 PM

They are not crumbs. There is a new reality. The church, and I don't just mean the Latin Mass crowd, is much smaller than most anyone thinks. Pope Benedict XVI is aware of it. The USCCB is not yet aware of it.

  4. Just making sure I know what michigancatholic means. That "the Church" (the number of all rightbelieving faithful in the world) is "much smaller" (there are many fewer such faithful) "than most anyone thinks" (than it looks like by counting heads). And HHBXVI is aware of it (aware that there are surprisingly few rightbelieving faithful) and the USCCB isn't (thinks there are about 60 million Catholics in the US).

Also that the Church (the rightbelieving faithful) includes some who are not "the Latin Mass crowd" (meaning those who regularly worship according to old rite).

  5. Of course the Church is smaller than anyone thinks, i.e., the number of truly believing, practicing Catholics. And Benedict XVI is well aware of it. Remember, as Cardinal Ratzinger he spoke more than once of the small cells of vibrant Christianity that would arise in the midst of secular Europe that would preserve the faith. The USCCB is aware of nothing except its need for power.

  6. Wow!

"The Church is smaller than anyone thinks".

I think I understand what you are trying to say, Janice, namely, that the number of those who are faithful to Christ is smaller than the number of registered members of the Church. But we ought not say it the way you say it, because it is a grave protestant error to hold that the true Church is different from the visible Church.

Remember, the Church is a spiritual hospital; it has to be hospitable, and thus count the sick and even the dead as within Her.
