For the record: developments in the world of Tradition

1) As reported in the local newspaper Prima Pagina Reggio on September 22, 2015,
the Archbishop of Ravenna-Cervia, Lorenzo Ghizzoni, asked a SSPX priest -- Fr. Enrico Doria -- to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass exclusively on the first and second Sundays of October in a parish of the Archdiocese (Saint Maria del Torrione). The Masses were celebrated for a coetus fidelium gathered under the terms of Summorum Pontificum. That is, this is past news, registered here for the record. We had known about it for many days but had asked for additional information which we hope will be forthcoming.

What makes this development even more surprising is that Archbishop Ghizzoni was known for his opposition to Summorum Pontificum when he was auxiliary bishop in Reggio Emilia-Guastalla during the reign of Benedict XVI. He was promoted to Archbishop of Ravenna-Cervia in 2012.

2) The final program for the Fourth Summorum Pontificum Pilgrimage to Rome has been published.

Highlights:

The Secretary of the PCED, Archbishop Guido Pozzo, will celebrate Pontifical Mass in the evening of October 23 at Santa Maria in Campitelli.

His Excellency Juan Rodolfo Laise, OFM Cap., Bishop Emeritus of San Luís, Argentina (see left) will celebrate Pontifical Vespers at Trinità dei Pellegrini (the FSSP parish in Rome) on the evening of October 22. He will also be the celebrant of the Pontifical Mass at the Altar of the Chair at St. Peter's Basilica on October 24, with Msgr. Luigi Negri, Archbishop of Ferrara-Comacchio, attending and delivering the homily.

Msgr. Rodolfo Laise, now 89 years old, was the most vocal episcopal critic of communion in the hand during the late 1990's and early 2000's. At that time he was the only bishop in Argentina to refuse to allow communion in the hand in his diocese.

The last Mass of the pilgrimage will be celebrated on the late morning of the Feast of Christ the King (October 25) by Dom Jean Pateau OSB (Abbot of Fontgombault), in Trinità dei Pellegrini.

Alongside the pilgrimage there will be three other activities of interest to Traditionalists:

A) The International Federation Una Voce will hold its general assembly 24-26 October at the Domus Australia, 14/b Via Cernaia, near the Porta Pia. Sung Vespers, Matthew Schellhorn directing, at 7:15pm Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September. The same venue will house the Sunday afternoon open lectures (2:30pm) as well as the closing Mass on Monday 26 September at 10am.

B) The CNSP (Coordinamento nazionale del Summorum Pontificum) will present the Italian-language version of Bishop Laise’s book on Communion in the hand with a preface by Bishop Schneider (published by Cantagalli) on Saturday 24 October at 3.30pm in the auditorium of the Augustinianum (in Italian).
C) The Madonna di Fatima association will present, in the same place at 5pm, a lecture titled “Let Us Defend the Faith, Let Us Protect the Family” with Christopher Ferrara, Antonio Brandi, John Vennari, and Susan Pearson (in English and Italian).

3) Tomorrow (Saturday, October 17), Bishop Athanasius Schneider will offer Solemn Pontifical Mass (1962 Missal) and ordain two new priests for the Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem (CRNJ). The Mass of ordination will take place in St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Charles Town, WV. The Bishop of the Diocese (Wheeling-Charleston), Bp. Michael Bransfield, will be present. Up to this time, the Canons Regular have had only one priest (the founder himself, Dom Daniel Augustine Oppenheimer) and the ordinations open a new and exciting chapter in the life of the Institute.
