Why We Have Not Covered the Synod on Synodality

A reader e-mails us to ask why we have not covered the proceedings of this first session of the Synod of Bishops on Synodality (the second session will be in the autumn of 2024).

First, of course, because because it is not a proper Synod (that is, a Synod OF BISHOPS), but a meeting of laity, religious men and women, priests, bishops, all with the right to vote. Its standing in a Church willed by God as hierarchical is doubtful at best.

Second, because the whole idea is ridiculous: a "meeting on the theory of meetings"... It's pathetic, and we all have proper lives and worries to waste precious time on this.

Third, and most importantly: ever since the first Synod under Francis, the first session of the Synod on the Family (which he hated, because he had no control over it), Francis and his circle have made an effort to transform the Synods into a theater. It really is irrelevant what is said and done, all decisions are already made up in Francis' mind, and he will pick and choose whatever he wants to implement whatever he thinks he can get away with. It is an expensive exercise of liberal overreach to justify whatever he has in mind to do.

So, that is it. In the meantime, Tradition will keep flourishing, because what men and women demand from religion is MORE, not less. It's TRUTH, not lies. It's BEAUTY, not shabbiness.
