You report: First TLM in Jogjakarta (Yogyakarta), Indonesia

The following report was submitted by Shevyn Andreas from the fledgling TLM community in Indonesia.

The first Mass in usus antiquior was celebrated at Jogjakarta in the Archdiocese of Semarang, Indonesia, on the Commemoration of the Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order (Saturday, February 12th 2011).

It was Low Mass (Missa Lecta) celebrated by Fr. BA. Rukiyanto SJ at Hospital Chapel, in Panti Rapih Hospital in downtown Jogjakarta...

The Mass was attended by approximately 60 people, including several nuns.
Most of them had never attended a Mass in usus antiquior before, except several senior nuns. After the Mass, outside the chapel, there was a question and answer moment on the Mass with the priest answering the questions.

It was a very joyful moment for us young people to assist in this Mass, to learn to follow the Mass using bi-lingual Missal in Latin-Indonesian side by side, to re-introduce the wearing of chapel veil to our spouses and daughters and female attendees (although it was not an obligation), and to give explanations about receiving Our Lord in the proper and traditional way, which is on the tongue and kneeling.

This month (February 2011) there are several requests from priests and peoples in different cities in Indonesia, namely Palembang, Pontianak, Surabaya and Manado, to have this Mass celebrated there. Requests from Palembang and Pontianak came from their own diocesan priests while requests from Surabaya and Manado came from laypeople.
