A meeting took place yesterday afternoon at the Vatican, presided by the Cardinal Secretary of State, in which the content and the spirit of the expected "Motu proprio" of the Holy Father on the use of the Missal promulgated by John XXIII in 1962 were explained to the representatives of several episcopal conferences. The Holy Father came to greet those who were present and maintained a profound discussion with them for about one hour. The publication of the document - which will be accompanied by a thorough personal letter of the Holy Father to the singular Bishops - is predicted for within a few days, when the document itself will be sent to all Bishops with the indication of its successive coming into effect.

Ha!... The puzzlement over the title, let us remember, was linked to the variously leaked "dates". The Holy See itself did not provide a date, though we know it will be very soon.
It has been a long ride, since this weblog, nearly alone, about 14 months ago (after the first "rumor wave"), made clear that the motu proprio was not a "myth", as the mainstream Catholic media (the MSCM) tried to portray. We enjoyed being the first English-language medium to provide a translation of this official note after all the doubt and disbelief of the past...
Tomorrow is the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul.
Wouldn't that be a perfect day for the Holy Father to exercise his ordinary authority as Bishop of Rome?

Oh, there has been an unexpected(?) meeting of the Bishops of the Chinese Patriotic Church called for today and tomorrow, which, apparently, has nothing to do with the Popes expected letter (itself supposed to be connected in publication with the MP?).

One is thing is certain. Wether good or bad, the publication of the MP will bring to an end the soap opera that this has become. I am very happy for this.
As of for me, this will also announce my departure from the blogsphere.
I have learned a lot about the Catholic Church in this blog and in other catholic blogs I have visited for the past months. I become to know more about the Catholic Church, not that I did not know about how the Church works, but I now understand why things have happened in such way.
I don't know if I will remain a Catholic, but in light of the notification of March 13, 2006 by the Pontifical Council for Legal Texts, regarding the so called "actus formalis defectionis ab Ecclesia catholica", if I decide to leave the Catholic Church, I will certainly invoke the norms published in that notification.
There are too many "structures of sins" in the Catholic Church which renders it almost impossible to live a life as a Christian, as member of the Catholic Church.
There is too much cant, too much hypocrisy, too much lust for power, and very little for service.
But as the mentioned notification remembers us on nr. 7:
"It remains clear, in any event, that the sacramental bond of belonging to the Body of Christ that is the Church, conferred by the bastismal character, is an onthological and permanent bond which is not lost by reason of any act of fact of defection."
Rome has spoken: "So let it be written, so let it be done".

Anonymous, the Missal of Pope St. Pius V dates to 1570. The Motu Proprio deals with the Missal of Blessed John XXIII, which dates to 1962. Of course, the Missal of 1570 and the Missal of 1962 are very similar, but there are some important differences (addition of St. Joseph to the Roman Canon, different Holy Week liturgy, option of omitting the second Confiteor).
