Don Guido

The current Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Genoa, Monsignor Guido Marini - who also is the Prefect of the ancient Cathedral of San Lorenzo and Archdiocesan Master of Ceremonies (Cerimoniere), as well as spiritual director of the Archdiocesan seminary and professor of Canon Law in several institutions -, has been named by several Italian journalists as the man who will replace Archbishop Piero Marini (no relation) as Master of Pontifical Liturgical Ceremonies.

First, Andrea Tornielli, on the September 2 edition of Il Giornale; now, Sandro Magister. The most interesting report, though, is that of a local Genoese news site, Primocanale, which details several changes in the local Curia, related to the probable departure of Don Guido Marini for Rome - and which would seem to indicate that the Papal move is imminent.

UPDATE (2245 GMT): It seems to be all but certain, as even Zenit (German edition) reports this imminent move (tip: Berolinensis).

But where is Marini going? And how will anyone make him go?

Bp Piero Marini was said to be "packing his luggage" in ... early September ... 2005 by the same Italian Vaticanists.
We know the dirty Bugninist linen must be an enormous bulk, so you hardly find suitcases, trunks and maybe trucks big enough to put everything inside.
However 2 years is a very long delay.
Besides if it is a departure to have him Curian cardinal, or archbishop of a major see, it would be better to leave him where he is.

Maybe we'll have what is called in French media a "marronnier" : from the chestnut tree, which is dropping its fruit every year at the same time ...
The imminent leave of Bp Marini looks like one of these "marronnier", the topic that has to be talked about, every year at the same season, especially when nothing really important is on the screens. Just a question ?

It has been repeatedly mentioned by some of the same sources that (Piero) Marini would be named President of the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses
(previous post).

I can't think of any reason for Abp. Marini's continued existence as Papal MC other than the current Pope's reverence for his predecessor.

A very misplaced reverence . . .

This time it seems for certain that Piero Marini is going....going...!!
Maybe some time this week we can say GONE!!!!
After the fiasco with the hideous vestments in Vienna (the Pope should have been ashamed to wear such a thing...especially over at Fr. Z's post it is claimed that the Austrians themselves wanted the Pope to wear Baroque vestments), Marini should be sacked quite quickly. And not to a potential Cardinal's post either.
The office of overseer of Eucharistic Congresses is almost a non-position in the Curia. It's so obscure, that would be very fitting for Marini. And it's not necessarilly a Cardinal's post. Cardinal Tomko already was a Cardinal when He was posted to that job....so it doesn't follow Marini will get the red hat.
Let's hope not. : )

Here's from the Vatican Information Service 071001:

The Holy Father:
- Appointed Archbishop Piero Marini, master of Papal Liturgical Celebrations, as president of the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses.

- Appointed Fr. Guido Marini of the clergy of the archdiocese of Genoa, Italy, as master of Papal Liturgical Celebrations.
