Rorate Caeli

A RORATE CÆLI Editorial: Standing with Peter.

"Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because you are like to whited sepulchres, which outwardly appear to men beautiful, but within are full of dead men's bones, and of all filthiness. So you also outwardly indeed appear to men just; but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; that build the sepulchres of the prophets, and adorn the monuments of the just, ... Wherefore you are witnesses against yourselves, that you are the sons of them that killed the prophets. ... You serpents, generation of vipers, how will you flee from the judgment of hell? Therefore behold I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them you will put to death and crucify, and some you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city." (St. Matthew, xxiii, 27-34)

Shame on you, "Liberal Catholics", Pharisees of the "New Springtime"! You proclaim to tolerate all, and to respect diversity, but you loathe those whose only wish is to preserve the purity of what was always taught and of the prayers that were always offered, because their continued presence in the Church contradicts the new "house" you tried to build.

Shame on you, "Progressives", official Scribes of the "Spirit of the Council"! You build monuments to the "Good Pope John", but reject all that he stood for, in traditional doctrine and in liturgical beauty. You hail Paul VI, but have done all you could to ignore his greatest magisterial document, Humanae Vitae, and discredit him in the eyes of the world. You maligned John Paul II every single day of his pontificate, but now you praise him, for you have found your new scapegoat - Benedict XVI, a man who, as his last work on earth, has accepted the heavy burden of the Fisherman, trying to bring unity to the flock God entrusted him.

You crucify Peter in the global public square. You deliver him to the enemies of the Church of Christ. You hate him for his struggle to rehabilitate what the Church has always believed and the way the Church has always prayed. You persecute him for he removed the scarlet sign of "excommunication", which you used to despise, but which you now view as good!

You hypocrites! You are accommodating towards abortionists and you pander to politicians dedicated to the culture of death - but you misrepresent Peter's legitimate gesture of mercy as an act of uninformed weakness. Liberal serpents, pseudo-Conservative vipers, you are "witnesses against yourselves" for your relentless persecution of Peter. Yet, Peter will keep working for unity with charity, charity in Truth.

Those who love the Vicar of Christ will keep praying daily for him, so that he "will not flee for fear of the wolves", so that he may persevere in the mission he set out to accomplish. What about you? "Your house shall be left to you, desolate."

Better we refrain from dignifying the merchants of death and their cabal with the title of "culture". No, a culture brings forth life. What they offer is only a "cult of death" - a covenant of evil and worship of Satan's purpose to destroy: "Venenum aspidum sub labiis eorum..."

Sorry, it is not just "progressive" Catholics who do not want this. It is also that group which has considered itself the norm for "orthodoxy" for the past thirty years: newly-arrived, bourgeois converts from evangelical Protestantism. They are among those making the loudest noises of disapprobation about this matter. They are also the ones who are using the epithet "anti-Semitic" to describe everyone in the SSPX or relegating it to a problem in French politics from the last century. Would that it were only the "progressive" Catholics, it would be a matter of little interest, but given the networking among the "neo-con Catholics" the anti-SSPX and anti-reintegration of the SSPX stories are broadcast widely. They should be condemned as well.

What a great post! Our prayers will save us and our enemies will be laid waste. The Holy Virgin, Mother of God, has interceded in our behalf and she will crush the heel of the evil one, who prowls about the world seeking the ruin of souls. We will continue our prayers until that glorious day when all restrictions on those who hold to what the Church has always taught are removed and their stand vindicated for the entire world to see. If it happens tomorrow, Praise be to God, next week, same thing, next month, the same. To Him be Honor and Glory, now and forever, Amen.

I don't know who wrote this piece, but it is magnificent. It expresses in total the attitude of the radical liberal garbage that has come from Vatican II (but which was never intended by it), as well as the same type of Cardinals, Bishops, priests, nuns and lay people who were the main architects of it. Fortunatly now all either dead, or extremely aged.
Yet you can still hear some of their aged anguished whines of outrage and indignation.
It perfectly describes the pseudo-conservative hypocrits like George Weigel (I wish someone could send him on a one-way ticket to Mars), and others (mostly at EWTN), who claim to be true Catholic, but condemn those who REALLY are.

Congratulations whoever wrote this piece. I would love to copy in and place copies in my parish...but that's I think a legal issue(copyright, etc.).

Anyway, Congratulations for speaking the Truth.
I hope the Pope regularizes the SSPX completely by Eastertime.

Yes, yes, they truly are antichrists, for they (liberal catholics) reject Christ's command of forgiveness and unity around the thruth (him, Jesus Christ). It is sad to witness how far these wolves have intruded in the Mystical Body of Christ (bishops and cardinals (Schönborn, a real traitor of Jesus Christ)). What kind of unity there is between liberal catholics and catholicism, since they are no longer catholics?

Well said. You also name correctly one of the main figueres of this wicked ideology of neo-conservatism (which is just a variation of progressism) To stand loyal to our beloved Holy Father Benedict XVI in Rome and to pray incessantly for him and those with him is a duty in these days when the traitors crawl out of their moldy holes and spatter his name.

Cardinal Schonborn is one of the worst. He promotes by his inaction all the corruption and dissent that is endemic in the Church of Austria.

The liberal, radical bishop if Linz, Austria just got an unwelcome surprise in the appointment of a REAL CATHOLIC as his auxilary there. I predict that the new Bishop Gerhard Maria Wagner goes even further than succeeding to the See of Linz...how about Vienna.

Sack Schoenborn, give him some minor flunky role in the Vatican, and appoint Wagner to Vienna in a year or two!!

The Pope has done two magnificent things in 1 week.

1). Lifted the excommunications of the magnificent SSPX

2). Appointed a new ultra-conservative traditionalist to Linz, Austria (probably the most dissident and corrupt diocese in Austria).

Now, let us pray that the Pope stands up those inside the Church who oppose him (all the dissidents and liberals), and those outside (Protestants and Jews....particularly the Jews),
and regularize and welcome back into total communion in the Church the SSPX. Before Eastertime this year.

I could not have written "Standing with Peter" any better.
Let us all pray daily for our Holy Father Pope Benedict.
Isn't it funny that even the so called "Catholic Senators" from the US are writing to him, saying how disappointed they are in him. They should first of all look in the mirror and take a deep look at their hearts and see the evil that they are doing here in the United States, instead of telling our Holy Father how he should take care of things.

For the sake of honesty if the Holy See still considers Hans Küng (who is a true heretic) a priest in good standing, then they must regularize the situation of the SSPX, at once.

Thank you, Rorate Caeli!

Beware of the MANY liberal adherents to the irrational "Vatican II is uniquely privileged super-dogma" principle -- ESPECIALLY those who dress themselves up in neo-Catholic clothing. (George Weigel and the rest of John Courtney Murray's merry band of contemporary apologists, please take note!)

ENOUGH with double standards when it comes to interpreting the Magisterium of the past versus the Magisterium of the present -- especially that which is motivated by an insidious "chronological snobbery".

If it be the Lord God's holy will, I earnestly pray that COMMUNIO theology will pave the way towards both the restoration of Tradition and the triumph of a *substantive and honest* "hermeneutic of continuity" apropos of ALL councils and ALL popes!

I would not call Msgr Ludwig Schwarz the incumbent bishop in linz a liberal ideologue. He is a pious pastor who will now be supported by a capable man, Msgr Wagner in a partly apostate diocese. Of course the unhappy pontificate of his precedessor, the ideologue Aichern was one of the most disastrous in the history of the church in austrian lands. Let´s pray that Ludwig Schwarz and Gerhard Maria Wagner will be a successful duo in the austrian church which is dominated by the spineless Count of Schoenborn and his minions.

You mean Williamson? ;-)

Keep in mind that not all problem causing converts are "neo-con" or liberal. Nor for that matter are all problem causing members of the Church converts.

So long as we insist that our vision of the Church is the right one, instead of yielding to the authority of the Church, we err. This is the reminder of Matthew 7. Let us all be certain we remove the beam from our own eye before pointing to the splinter in our brother's eye.

Remember the Pharisees and Scribes were condemned for their own self righteousness and refusing to consider their own sinfulness in the condemnation of others.

We must be careful we do not become guilty of this here. Yes, we need to stand with the Holy Father, but we *MUST NOT* take the attitude of "Lord I thank you I am not like this tax collector..."

Lover of the Latin Mass,

I am not referring to you specifically.

Jordanes,

Yes, George Weigel is a "cradle Catholic." However, he espouses the same bourgeois, evangelically-inspired programme that has made loud noises against the reintegration of the SSPX. Did you not read his column in Newsweek?

Jordanes said...

Yes, I read his Newsweek column. Your criticism seemed directed at people like him, but you specified converts from Protestantism and I had thought he was a lifelong Catholic.

I’m not overly concerned by the Weigels of the Church, though. They understandably have questions and concerns about an SSPX reconciliation and how it would be worked out, but they tend to be faithful and loyal and supportive of the Church, so when the SSPX is regularized they’ll come around without too much trouble and fuss. It’s the “modernistical” dissenting type of Catholic who will cause the most trouble and try to do the most damage, and who have the international media on their side. And on that front, you know, for all that Bishop Williamson’s views are justly to be reprobated, still I find it mighty suspicious that that November interview would be aired just days before the decree lifting the excommunications was published. Mighty interesting timing, and I find it difficult to believe that was purely coincidental.

Wow! A great editorial - I'll be linking to this at my blog.

Prima said...

Jordanes,

You seem not to have read anything Weigel has written. His political theology is at odds with Church tradition. It is informed by that of John Courtney Murray, S.J., and places too much emphasis on a "democratization" of the Church. Weigel has a view much closer to that of evangelical Protestantism on matters, e.g., ecclesiology, the place of faith in the public arena, etc., than Church tradition warrants.

Jordanes said...

Prima, I’ve read a good deal of Weigel, and I’m well aware of his belonging to Father Murray’s school of thought (btw Father Murray’s influence is unmistakeable in the Church’s conciliar decree Dignitatis Humanae). As a Catholic monarchist I’m obviously not of that school, though I acknowledge that it is within the acceptable parameters of the Catholic faith, albeit certainly in “tension” with it in various important ways. However, Weigel’s ecclesiology has little if anything in common with evangelical Protestant ecclesiology (if there is even such as thing as ecclesiology in evangelical Protestantism). I do wonder, though, just how well Weigel recognizes the degree to which Vatican II’s novel approaches are contingent and culturally conditioned: adaptations in how the Church interacts with the surrounding culture for the sake of evangelization, not irreversible or definitive and by no means infallible.
