Pray for Chile and Oceania

Please pray for the people of Chile and of the islands of the Pacific that have been or are about to feel the effects of this morning's devastating 8.8 earthquake near Concepcion, Chile. The terrible tremor has generated a tsunami that has already hit islands close to Chile and is moving west across the Pacific. Latest reports say at least 122 dead in Chile. Structural damage is widespread and people are without power or water. Santiago airport will be closed for the next 24 hours. In Concepcion, Intellencia Cathedral has completely collapsed, and the side of Santa Dominga Church has collapsed. A 130-foot tsunami wave hit Juan Fernandez Island near Chile, and Easter Island has been evacuated.

I want to second Jordanes's call for prayer for the victims of this terrible natural disaster. At this time, posting on this or any other forum seems to be less a priority than prayer for those affected.

It certainly seems that God has had enough - one wonders if this would have happened if chile was a traditional Catholic country.

Thankfully it seems that the tsunami has passed by with little effect upon most locations across the Pacific.

It's a blessing that the tsunami's effects were more localised closer to South America. The earthquake damage is quite bad enough.

It's hard to say if an earthquake like this would have struck, or struck as severely, had Chile still been a traditional Catholic nation, but certainly we know that natural evils often serve as divine punishment for sin.

Didn't Pat Robertson make a similiar point when an earthquake hit Haiti? An country that abandons traditional Catholicism is a nation under judgement, but its a stretch to interpret an earthquake as God having enough.
