Japanese bishop maintains suspension of NCW activities in his diocese

UCAN has published the text of a pastoral letter published on January 20, 2011 by Msgr. Osamu Mizobe SDB, Bishop of Takamatsu, Japan, in which he declares that the activities of the NCW will remain suspended in his diocese. Said diocese is the smallest in Japan (with 5,000 faithful) as well as the home of the NCW's Japanese seminary.

In his letter, Msgr. Mizobe supplies some interesting details of the talks between the Curia and the Japanese bishops regarding the NCW, and asserts that pending the arrival of a special envoy from the Vatican (the second since 2003), the Holy See has agreed to allow the individual bishops to act towards the NCW as they see fit. He also refers to the following actions taken by various bishops towards the NCW in the years past: the suspension of the NCW in the Diocese of Clifton (in 1997), the letter written to the NCW by the Catholic bishops of the Holy Land in 2007, and last year's imposition of a moratorium (not just an inspection, as Msgr. Mizobe says) on NCW catechesis in the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan in the Philippines.

With Bishop Schneider's call for a new Syllabus. How do you think the NCW is going to react?. I'm puzzled how on one hand the Holy Father approves of the NCW, but on the other hand he is promoting traditional practices and theology. I'm getting very confused on all this.

Mention of Diocese of Clifton. Indeed, the NCW is a characteristic post-conciliar symptom of cancer with which the church is plagued these days. This is a noxious movement that agitates the vulnerable psychology of people in order to frighten them into its clutches. Unfortunately, the liberal papacy we have has propagated such tendancies through its phenomenological and postmodernist philosophies. Anything goes today in the modernist Vatican.

The pope can do this and embrace Anglicans, Orthodox, Mohamatens, Buddhists and so on because he is syncretic in his underlying orientation. The church is finally losing its sure compass under a papacy that exploits the veneer of tradition to implement its modernist programme - Assisi is coming up yet again; visits to mosques, temples and synagogues; approving just about any movement inside the NO establishment; refusing to discipline recalcitrant, disobedient and corrupt bishops while he polays to the public media with his post-conciliar ecumenical and interreligious antics.

This is the patent sign of liberal modernism - but few here or elsewhere have got the courage to say so. Even more lack the knowledge and understanding of it. This papacy is a total failure & does nothing to address the fundamental problems afflicting the church. It has only succeeded in making them worse.

@Robert. The Holy Father is the Pope of the whole Catholic Church - good Catholics, bad Catholics, liberal Catholics, traditional Catholics, etc. I think he is just trying be the pastor of the whole Church - that means trying to reconcile those outside the Church, such as the SSPX and Anglicans, as well as keep others, such as the NCW, in the Church. As messy as it all seems at times, popes will probably be more likely to have an influence toward orthodoxy and orthopraxis in the NCW if they remain in the Church. If they were to be banned outright everywhere, I suspect they would just become another protestant sect.

At the same time, it seems the Holy Father has constantly been giving bishops the encouragement to be bishops... not committee members whose hands are tied. Thus, it seems, bishops [not the conference] are to deal with the NCW.

The NCW seems to be threatening the status quo of the Church in Japan. Their presence in the smaller, almost isolated community has significant impact that might threaten the Bishops' authority. Is the Church in Japan more or less Traditional than say in the USA?

Probably, worse than in other countries. Attending the Latin mass (whether the ordinary form or the extraordinary form) is basically impossible due to the absence of chance.

In general, Japanese bishops like the Ecumenism and are modernists, I feel. A decade ago, they replaced the traditional prayers with colloquial-style ones, and even the long established translation of "Jesus" with the translation form used in the Protestant and Anglican churches.

To LeonG: Your accusation that the successor of Peter, Pope benedict XVI, is a syncretist is factucally inaccurate, theological ignorant, borderline libelous and deeply disappointing. I visit this site daily because it presents faithful news and commentary from a part of the Church which is a vital example of the good work which is underway within our beloved Church as she engages a new missionary age. However, it is commentary such as yours, from a segment of the community which also visits this site - which appears to be very close to sedevacantism - which gives me increasing concerns about where this otherwise wonderful site is heading.

Public actions betray personal interests and personal motivations. The objective evidence is there for all to witness. If he decides to abandon Asdsisi then there is certainly evidence ofa change of mindset.

As to your other accusations these are completely meaningless given the historical context.
