I hope the current financial catastrophe in Ireland... Affords an opportunity for the Irish people to find their way back to the Faith...

To all those in the Latin Mass Society of Ireland battling for tradition - you are all in my prayers.

A Message of Hope

“And will not God revenge his elect who cry to him day and night: and will he have patience in their regard? I say to you, that he will quickly revenge them. But yet the Son of man, when he cometh, shall he find, think you, faith on earth?” (Luke 18: 7-8)

This is a crucial passage for our time, I maintain, for there are so many ways by which the modernists are trying to destroy the Faith that has nourished us for over 20 centuries. The evidence is all around us and it is not my purpose to recapitulate all the facts which support this view. It is only for me to encourage those who have steadfastly maintained the Faith, to continue to do so despite the bleak picture that confronts us in these times both in the Church and without.

Brother is set against brother, sister against sister, children against parents. Everyday we hear of new outrages against our holy Faith…of failures on the part of God’s ministers to protect the flock. The highest elements of the Catholic hierarchy seem to be lukewarm in defending Holy Tradition and, in some cases, are working to destroy those elements of Tradition which are most dear to us, including but not limited to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Only a few traditional priests in terms of numbers stand ready to guard us as true Shepherds. God bless them and keep them.

But remember what Christ Himself said in the aforementioned quotation from Luke’s gospel: “I say to you, that he will quickly revenge them. All we have to do is to maintain our Faith, the Faith of our fathers and grandfathers, that long line of devoted and faithful Catholics who worked and struggled that we may have that Faith passed on to us. God bless you all and have a Blessed Triduum and Happy and Glorious Easter.

The Holy Thursday missa cantata at San Buenaventura Mission in California was fabulous. I was honored to be one of the twelve who had their feet washed by the priest. When all 150 of us processed out intoning the Pange Lingua, it was a magical moment.

Remember, if you want to take back our mass from the Modernists, the most important thing is for you to be counted at Easter masses. If you do not have a Good Friday or Easter Vigil in your town, travel to one that does offer it. It would be a very satisfying pilgrimage. Here in Los Angeles we live 75 miles away from the nearest Latin Mass, courtesy of the implacable Roger Cardinal Mahoney, so we took a hotel room in Ventura for our Triduum pilgrimage. In the United States we are very lucky that a web of traditional masses is gradually becoming available, so with a small effort one can find Latin masses in Wikimissa. This would be impossible in Latin America, Asia or Africa where only a small missionary presence, thanks to the fearless efforts of the SSPX, can be found.

Happy Easter everyone!
