Rorate Caeli

Lorber, FSSPX, prefaced by Cañizares, S.R.E. Card.

Magnificat Dominum is a new work produced by the wonderful Association Sacra Musica (France - page in English), not officially affiliated with any particular order or society, for the popularization of the basic pieces of Gregorian chant and of traditional vernacular hymnody among the faithful. The book's organizer? Father Bernard Lorber, FSSPX (SSPX), the priest behind Sacra Musica's greatest projects.

Who penned its preface? Cardinal Cañizares Llovera, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship. (Source: UnaVoce.fr; tip: Le Forum Catholique)

Text of the preface:

Music and liturgical chant, Gregorian chant in particular, form a large part of this higher communication, even when the text of the chant is not fully understood (either through lack of knowledge of Latin, or because of melismas, or because of the polyphonic structure of the song). To listen to and to join the liturgical chant is a high form of liturgical participation. To offer both the faithful and liturgical singers access to the Gregorian repertoire as well as popular traditional hymns, as does Magnificat Dominum in its second edition, is a valuable aid to such participation, be it the faithful who wish to use the form of the Roman Rite known as "extraordinary", or those who live the Roman liturgy under its "ordinary" form while wishing not to lose the treasures of the musical heritage of the Roman Rite and rediscover a language and a form of communication which still today permits them to strengthen their faith, confirm their hope, and grow in charity. My congratulations to the Association Musica Sacra.

Cher Mornac:

I had translated (in what is now called cursive handwriting) the exact same passge of the preface of Cardinal Antonio Canizares Lovera, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Cult. Then found out you had already entered it, and in a much more accurate version. Felicitations.

The overarching point is that we are all in the same boat and that saving Catholic Tradition is a most worthwhile task for the good One Holy and Apostolic Catholic Church. We should never give up. Like Una Voce and FSSP, in this occasion collaborating for the glory of Mary Mother of God.

I pray that having the preface written by the Prefect for the Congregation for Divine Worship will finally hush the scruples of silly, self-righteous, neo-conservative Catholics who voice ethical qualms about purchasing anything that might be associated with the SSPX.

Fr. Lorber and the Association Sacra Musica have, once again, provided a great service to the One, Holy, Catholic Church, of which they obviously are members.

I have often pointed out to such scrupulous ones that EWTN sells books published by the SSPX (such as Fr. Helmuts Libietis, sspx, Consecration to Mary). Usually there is no comment.
