Rorate Caeli

Let us pray for the Holy Father

He too will suffer in the next few days from the action of shameless, base, immoral and repulsive leakers, the sort of men who are willing to pressure the Church and embarrass their superiors, with the intent of achieving their narrow aims - in this case, by harming the reputation of the Successor of St. Peter on some specifically Italian matters.

Vatican, here are the secret letters

Who compiled them was Gianluigi Nuzzi, the journalist of La7 [Italian private television network], from a "deep throat" beyond the Tiber, and he will publish them in the investigation book Sua Santità [His Holiness] (Chiarelettere), that will be widely disclosed in the new issue of Sette [weekly magazine, distributed with Corriere della Sera]. What is shown in it is a careful reconstruction of the power struggles that are fought every day in the sacred Vatican palaces. No insinuations, only documents, as the letter sent by fax by Dino Boffo [journalist, former editor of the official daily of the Italian episcopate, Avvenire] to Father Georg [Gänswein, personal secretary of the Pope] ... . Nuzzi also transcribes in the book the report prepared on the occasion of a dinner, that remained reserved, between pope Ratzinger, Giorgio Napolitano [President of the Italian Republic] and his wife Clio. The president is presented as a strategic interlocutor, "despite being married according to civil law" [only]. ... Also on the matter of taxes, the representative of the sacred palaces is Ettore Gotti Tedeschi, president of the IOR [the central financial institution of the Holy See] ... .

[Several sources, including Quotidianamente, in Italian]

Let us pray for the Holy Father. Let us pray for the Church.

This is terrible. Why this "journalist" would do such a thing is beyond me. Bottom line, however, who's the weasle passing him the stuff? He/she's just as bad.

I'm telling you this is a direct threat from the secular enemies of the Church. They now know that the revolution of Vatican II is at stake.

If he (the Holy Father) regularizes and legitimizes the SSPX, there will be more of this kind of action from hostile, secular quarters.

Close the windows.

Lower the portcullis.

The siege from the modern world will be on again as soon as the clerics whose fraternity bears the name of its greatest foe, St. Pius X, are given global approbation to act in the Name of Christ the King...

The Devil will show his hand too early, and the pope will finally know how he should play...

We will soon be at war again. Fortunately we'll now know everyone's loyalties...

Modernists can no longer hide.

I begin to see God's grand purpose in this disaster...

On a nicer note, New Catholic's erudition does not cease to amaze.

The header image on Rorate Caeli today shows the title of a 1927 scientific paper by Mgr. Georges Lemaitre, S.J., "A Homogeneous Universe of Constant Mass and Growing Radius Accounting for the Radial Velocity of Extragalacic Nebulae".

Cosmologist Fr. Lemaitre is one of many Catholic scientist-priests - such as Gregor Mendel the founder of Genetics.

In this paper Fr. Lemaitre explained observations by astronomers that the light from outer galaxies has a red shift: the Universe is constantly expanding. He mathematically demonstrated that the Universe started at a single point in time - the "Primeval Atom" or "Big Bang Theory" as it is known today. You may think Stephen Hawking invented the Big Bang, but in reality it was a Jesuit priest.

Lemaitre's theory met with great resistance because it was considered close to a mathematical proof of Creation. However, over the decades it became accepted by physicists, even by Albert Einstein. A biography of Fr. Lemaitre can be found in Wikipedia.

Fr. Lemaitre greatly served our Church through his appointment as Academician of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in 1936. He was one of its most illustious presidents from 1960 to his death in 1966.

In 1960 Fr. Lemaitre was appointed Monsigneur by Pope John XXIII. This promotion may have been anticipated by the decision by Pope Pius XII to grant the title of "Eccellenza" (which is the title offered to bishops)to all Pontifical Academicians in 1940. Pius XII was very fond of his Academy of Sciences and enjoyed sitting in their sessions at the Vatican. Cardinal Ratzinger was an Honorary Member of the Academy of Sciences until his elevation to the papacy; it is said he wanted to stay but it was not possible.

Mgr. Lemaitre offers a great example that there is no opposition between Faith and Reason.

Does Berlusconi own this book's publisher, too? The Italian media (in other words: Berlusconi's mouthpiece) is very disrespectful of Il Papa.

This is nothing to do with Berlusconi. La 7 was the former Telemontecarlo, Italian TV service of the Monegasque state broadcaster, purchased by Telecom Italia in 2001. Dino Boffo is a practising homosexual, now editor of the Italian Bishops' Conference mouthpiece Avvenire. Nothing against any of these people, but they're hardly exemplary catholics...

As long as the aging remnants of the totally worthless reign of John Paul II still prowl the corridors of the Vatican and maintain positions of power, this corruption will continue.

Sodano, Re, and Bertone and their equally aged middle management underlings are the head of the corruption. Remove them and the situation might improve.

Thank you for noticing it, Gratias.

Father (later Monsignor) Lemaître was never a member of the Society of Jesus, though, but always a secular priest of the Archdiocese of Mechlin (Malines/Mechelen, from 1961 Mechlin-Brussels).

The one thing we can say about the enemies of the Church, and those with agendas, is that they are true cowards. They hide in the shadows, release their "secret" documents and letters. Until they are willing to put a name to their leaks and accusations they should be ignored and prayed for.

In all likelihood, the materials and deliberations of the Ordinary Session of the CDF are now officially in the hands of the Holy Father.

Perhaps the Holy Father will take his time to read the documents, perhaps he already discussed the during the Audience with the Cardinal Prefect.

There is even the possibility that the Holy Father communicated to the Prefect of the CDF, in the course of the audience, a decision on the Question of the SSPX.

This applies to many situations in life, especially in this day and age of the Internet. Good one, Andrew!

The press is always in for the least hint of papal scandal. Nay, history, especially Whig history has thrived on such papal and byzantine scandals.

It's amazing to see what ghoulies are coming out of the woodwork now that something that will greatly benefit God's Holy Church is imminent. No doubt there will be many more making their appearance shortly.
