STATEMENT OF THE DIRECTOR OF THE HOLY SEE PRESS OFFICE CONCERNING THE MEETING AT THE CONGREGATION FOR THE DOCTRINE OF THE FAITH ABOUT THE DOCTRINAL ASSESSMENT OF THE LCWR
Today the Superiors of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith met with the President and Executive Director of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) in the United States of America. Most Rev. Peter J. Sartain, Archbishop of Seattle and the Holy See’s Delegate for the doctrinal Assessment of the LCWR, also participated in the meeting.
The meeting provided the opportunity for the Congregation and the LCWR officers to discuss the issues and concerns raised by the doctrinal Assessment in an atmosphere of openness and cordiality.
According to Canon Law, a Conference of Major Superiors such as the LCWR is constituted by and remains under the supreme direction of the Holy See in order to promote common efforts among the individual member Institutes and cooperation with the Holy See and the local Conference of Bishops (Cf. Code of Canon Law, cann. 708-709). The purpose of the doctrinal Assessment is to assist the LCWR in this important mission by promoting a vision of ecclesial communion founded on faith in Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Church as faithfully taught through the ages under the guidance of the Magisterium.

By the way, just this quick note:
V.I.S. reports that the Pope had an audience with Cardinal Levada and his Secretary, Ladaria Ferrer, on Saturday.
I guess it's too mucn to hope for a recognition this week. More likely, it had to do with talks with the other bishops.
The Feast of the Sacred Heart comes on Friday, of course, but I don't see it as a particularly good time. Maybe something for the Vigil of SS. Peter & Paul on 28th June?

These nuns can't die out fast enough for the good of the Church.
Oooh!, be careful, Vatican "Sister" Weisenbeck might get ticked!
The Holy See appears to be in the business of house cleaning these days. Religious organizations that have been essentially running-a-muk (yes, on the left and right) for the last generation are being put to the test;
Are you "in or out?"
Bro Henry:
It's spelled "amok." I'm in!
Be careful, Vatican, Hell hath no fury like Joan Chittister being told to uphold basic Church dogma!
This will go nowhere, these sisters lost the faith decades ago, now the decision will be up to the Pope, let them die out or remove them, they will let them die out.
Knight of Malta's "Joan Chittister" link leads to an article that tells of the sisters sipping chardonnay by the lake. My hat's off to them; in the best days of my youth the most I could manage was port by the gallon. Maybe their prodigious consumption explains their worldview.
Edward said, "This will go nowhere. These sisters lost the faith decades ago, now the decision will be up to the Pope, let them die out or remove them, they will let them die out."
Exactly, Edward. It won't go anywhere. Seriously, we can't expect otherwise. This is more than an obedience thing. People can't and won't teach something they don't believe in.
IMO, I've never heard of a lib who's come round. Never say never, of course, with God, but as you said, they have to die out first.

When I read the title, I for a second tought that the Holy See had replaced the leadership of the Conference with an Apostolic interventor / administrator /provisional governor.
Knight of Malta, you're right.
The Vatican needs to be ready to be painted as a "racist, Nazi, caveman, oppressive, capitalist, male chauvinist, nativist, theocratic-organized military coup as an ideologically driven response to the pervasive ecological, physical and social degradation of the world." organization.
I have no idea how the Vatican will be able to withstand such "flawlessly logical and principled" attack from Joan Chittister.
(see google for the quote in context:-] )
There is a 'nun' somewhere in the U.S.A. who actually serves as an abortuary escort. I kid you not. She's infamous. Of course, such things were done for shock value but it's all worn off by now.
The fact remains that she is still active, as is the priest in Toronto who simulated marriage between two males, as is 'Fr.' Raymond Gravel. I hope that the Holy See will take some action in these cases, as the scandal caused by them convinces people that the Church is not to be taken seriuosly.

These nuns will die out faster than you think. There's already talk about some of the more "moderate" if that's possible Orders in the LCWR pulling out because they don't like the direction this is going.
Some of these radical femminist Orders have a median age approaching 80....and some have their 80+ sisters still working!!
One infamous Order has sisters still doing "ministry" and they are all in their 80's. They don;t have any much younger.
Give them 5-10 years more and they'll all be gone!! :)

For a long time already, Anil. Nothing new.
