Nice to see that Benedict is now better and doing well, he is greatly missed.
I miss the Holy Father Emeritus so much!
a Bishop dressed in White "we had the impression that it was the Holy Father". - Just saying ...
I am a recent revert to the Faith (over a year ago), thanks largely to the Traditional Latin Mass, and was glad to have returned during Benedict XVI's pontificate. He personified to me a genuine humility and holiness ('labouring obediently in the vineyard of Our Lord') and putting on the majestic but heavy 'trappings' and following the complex rituals of his office only in glorification of the Church, and not himself. This tireless working and humility despite his towering intellectual prowess so unusual in the Catholic Church (or anywhere else) today. He helped clarify for me the root causes of the unhappy state of the Church today, and also bring a deeper understanding of my faith. His many writings are a treasure trove of catechetical teaching. I was shocked and crestfallen to learn about his sudden resignation last February, but at least the burdens of the papal office no longer weigh heavily upon his frail shoulders. I will always thank God for allowing my return while he was pope, for I sensed in Benedict a truly kindred spirit. God bless Benedict XVI always!
All Popes of the modern era are bishops dressed in white.
@ ben ingledew:"a Bishop dressed in White "we had the impression that it was the Holy Father". - Just saying..."Yes indeed... Who would have thought that it was not the Holy Father himself strolling along the Vatican gardens?? I have always found this thing of wearing, for all effects and purposes, the robes of the papacy, while not being a pope rather perplexing... Wouldn't it have made more sense for him to have returned to the simple cassock of an emeritus bishop? Perhaps pope emeritus Benedict feels that he still has some role to play in the mission of the church, even without being pope, but as "pope emeritus"??
I miss Pope Benedict XVI emeritus.
Oh, The love I have for the Holy Father! Including Pope Francis
All Popes of the modern era are bishops dressed in white.Said the Holy Ghost, like Never
Gee, is that paparazzi in a tree?
I'm glad to see Benedict appears in good health, but this picture reinforces my concerns with his abdication. I'm sure the strains of the job were crushing, but God only gives us that which we can handle. Now, his adversaries are working against the modicum of good he did in his eight years.
A true saint lives among us.
In response to some of the comments here nobody should have been shocked and dismayed over his decision in February because he had been taking and hinting about it for years nobody paid any attention or took it seriously, as far as the undoing of the last 8 years NO. At this very moment in Rome is an important Liturgical Conference going on. He has said earlier this month "I am Fine. I live like a Monk"
How I wish that all the speeches given by His Holiness Pope Emeritus Benedict XVl would be published in book form. Cardinal Rigali stated that he believes Pope Benedict XVl will one day be declared a Doctor of the Church. All I read of His Holiness speeches are filled with a spiritual richness that serves only to sanctify. May God continue to Bless him. I pray that Pope Francis ask him to continue to guide us.
His shoes appear cordovan in color, not red, not brown but cordovan! Nice to see B16 and ++Ganswein together.
Interesting how there is such a gap in age but i do believe they must be best friends!
Der Holy Father Emeritus: Many, many thanks for the service you offered to the Church. Thanks to you my wife and I enjoy an every-Sunday Diocesan mass. Summorum Pontificum will grow depending on the permission of your successor. I have learned so much from you. The books of your collected Wednesday public Audiences are jewels that will last to the Church for the ages. I also learned from you, that our standard prayers - Gloria Patris, Paternoster, Avemaria and Apostle's Credo serve as preparation for our personal prayers to God. Above all I learned how good it is to have our Church under the gudance of a good man who is a living Saint. Vielen Dank Heilege Vater für Ihren acht jahren als Papst. Sie haben die Kirche galassen viel besser als Sie es gefunfen haben.
Gratias, You speak of books of collections of Pope Benedict's Wednesday audiences. Which are they, I have so much hoped for such books. I need them for my spiritual guidance. Rorate Caeli would you please allow this information to be given. It is of great importance to me.
I believe Ignatius publishes them. One on prayer, which looks excellent, is at my local Barnes and Noble.
