Yesterday we heard the news that Fr Robert Byrne, Cong. Orat., the former Provost (superior) of the Oxford Oratory, will be consecrated bishop, to be an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Birmingham.
Fr Byrne was Provost when a weekly Traditional Mass was established there. The congregration of this Mass has, since its establishment in 2004, grown from about 25 people to about 90. Holy Days are also celebrated with a Traditional Mass in the Oratory, twice a year there is a High (Solemn) Mass, and the Traditional Mass is incorporated into their very splendid annual celebration of the Forty Hours. All the Fathers of the Oxford Oratory celebrate the Traditional Mass.
We wish Fr Byrne every success in his new role.
