The 2016 Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage in Rome began with Holy Mass celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos for the 10th anniversary of the Institut Bon Pasteur. Due to short-notice changes, the venue had to be changed to the rather small, yet richly adorned, church of S. Eligio near the Forum Romanum. Thus, the church was bursting at the seams with pilgrims eager to assist at the Holy Sacrifice. Also in attendance were His Eminence Cardinal Burke, Their Graces Archbishops Guido Pozzo and Alexander K. Sample, Monsignor Marco Agostini and the Superior General of the FSSP, The Very Reverend Father John Berg, as well as numerous other dignitaries from different institutes and organisations. Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos devoted his homily to the 10th anniversary of the IBP, its role in the Church and the traditional Liturgy in general – at least from what a non-proficient speaker of Italian could understand. After Mass, a procession to Santa Maria in Campitelli began, headed by Cardinal Burke and followed by hundreds of faithful, chanting and praying their way through the late evening streets of the Eternal City, arriving with the sound of church bells echoing across the city. There, the day's liturgical programme ended, accompanied by splendid chant.
