Rorate Caeli

Maciel

A Mexican commentator calls it "the last nail on the coffin of the founder of the Legion of Christ", Father Marcial Maciel Degollado.

The accusations, the suspension, the repeal of the secret vows, and now, past his death, the revelation of his double life: mistress, children, secret money withdrawals.

Which, once again, proves how Pope Benedict XVI is a just and loving father in how he deals with all matters. Just as he was fair in his acts towards Maciel Degollado, even though many did not understand and support him, especially within the Legion of Christ and within the Roman Curia, he is right and acts with full knowledge of all consequences in his dealings with the Society of Saint Pius X. How unfair and treasonous has been the behavior of the wolves in the Curia who cannot be named and who remain unknown and of the wolves who can be named.

The Holy Father was truly left with a huge mess by his predecessor. He was the great do-nothing pope. No wonder the world loved him.

We shouldn't be surprised that Benedict XVI should be hated by the wolves and the media. He's actually doing something.

There will be no peace in the church until the corrupt, highly conspirative pseudoconservative orders, all protégés of the John Paul II era, like the legionaries and opus dei are suppressed and deprived of all of their rights in the church. They are as dangerious and deleterious for the church as the different leftist anomalies, who do their hideous mischief.

The Holy Fahther knows very well who his real stalwarts are.

Why is it that the wolves in the Curia "cannot be named"?

It has to stated that the last pontificate was an unmitigated disaster for The Church. "The wolves in the curia" cannot be known because it would reveal the extent such was the amoral nature of the last papacy which relativised faith, phenomenologised doctrinal understanding and inculturated the liturgy. The net effect was outcomes as the one we witness here. The situation with the SSPX was another of his own making and ill-advised. Pope Benedict XVI has plenty of house-cleaning to do & admirable enough he has set about the task but it is a pity, at the same time, he is blinded by his admiration for his immediate predecessor.

"The Holy Father was left with a huge mess by his predecessor." 100% true. However, equally true is this: Archbishop Lefebvre's Society has been left a huge mess by one the the good Archbishop's successors. JPII chose a lot of fools to the episcopate. Archbishop Lefebvre chose one out of four, not very good statistics either way.

And to Mr. Rathkaj, you should pretend to be Christian when you are only interested in words such as :"suppress" and "deprive" for people who may be better than yourself (I am neither in or of Opus Dei nor the Legionaries and I am a traditionalist). Indeed, I went so far as to ask an Opus Dei priest what he thought of the whole thing, and he sides with the Society and with the Pope, and he thinks that what Bishop Williamson has already said is quite enough, and that at any rate the man is entitled to his own opinion on secular matters of historical numbers and interpretation. So don't be so quick to judge, Mr. (or Ms.) Rathkaj

I pray sincerely for Pope Benedict XVI that he may have the fortitude to do what is right regardless of the consequences. The Catholic Church is in a mess. He is a just Vicar of Christ.

David, why must we speak ill of the dead pontiff?

Let us instead speak well of the living, and Benedict the Great.

Blame won't bring unity.

Being in full institutional Communion with Rome means living in a Church that is filled with sinners. Some worse than others. Some even opposed to the Church, fighting her from the inside. Instead of heaping blame, why don't we model proper obedience to Christ and the Pope, and model proper behavior of a baptized and confirmed Christian?

Just as Christ's obedience and sometimes silence revealed the snares and empty lies of the Enemy, so too can our obedience and sometimes silence reveal the snares and empty lies of those that (wittingly or unwittingly) serve the enemy and not Christ.

We can not reason with those who are inherently unreasonable. But we can model a superior course of action, and the fruits of it will convert others... perhaps even some of our enemies.

What really needs to be suppressed even more than Opus Dei is the Adoremus Movement, along with all those who would attempt to merge the treasure of the traditional Missal with that new thingy.

A letter from P. Álvaro Corcuera perhaps is to be posted at the institutional webs of LC and RC:

It is amazing how, four years after his death, the great facade of John Paul II's pontificate is being revealed for the absolute NOTHING it really was.

He was indeed, the great-do-nothing Pope. Or , as one of my friends who is a traditionalist Catholic said- John Paul II was the "perpetual tourist"...regarding his 100+ trips outside Italy.

No wonder people hate Benedict XVI, because he is at least half-way a traditional Pope, in the style of past Popes. Whereas John Paul II was not. He despised everything of the traditional Papacy, and did none of it.
When Benedict XVI brings a bot back here and there, he is criticized by the left. But praised by real Catholics.

Benedict XVI was truely left a mess by John Paul's 26+ years of doing nothing.
The "neo-con" religious Orders and religious institutions (Legionaries of Christ, EWTN, Community of the Beatitudes, Community of Jerusalem, Neocatemenical Way etc.) are no help either to the agenda of Benedict XVI, or to the Roman Catholic Church. They are all 100% "Vatican II". EWTN might be changing alittle towards tradition however.

Look to see the Legionaries of Christ to start declining in membership now, after the image of their founded -which had gained mythic proportions among the Legion- has been so disgraced.

I would like to see Benedict XVI start removing the "wolves" in the Curia.

We know who alot of them are.
Look for some big names to fall in the next few months.

I hope Levada has his bags packed.

St. Josemaria's group really can't be classed alongside Father Maciel's. From what I can tell they're really not alike at all. In addition, Opus Dei is a personal prelature of the Pope and remains approved. The Legionaries also remain approved, but their rule has already been significantly changed by Pope Benedict, and their founder has been disgraced beyond rehabilitation. If they are to continue to exist in any form, they will have to be drastically reconstituted, re-founded really, or else suppressed -- though they may well dwindle and die now.
