Rumors regarding the removal of Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith as Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments have been intense for over a year. According to Vaticanist Andrea Tornielli, the moment has come for such a move: Ranjith will almost certainly be named Archbishop of Colombo, in his native Sri Lanka, in the next few days - despite all last-minute efforts by interested parties to keep him in his Roman job.
His replacement, according to Tornielli, will be an American: Father J. Augustine DiNoia, O.P., the famous theologian and currently undersecretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
