I am shocked! Shocked, I say!

"Cardinal Danneels is seriously shocked "

Cardinal Godfried Danneels remains very shocked after the [Police] raid at his home at Varkensstraat, the archbishop's palace, and the cathedral.

"The cardinal is only human. He is a very hard worker. He is a man who has had a very experienced life, and always [lived in a] very quiet [manner]. ... I can assure you that the cardinal had envisioned his retirement very differently," said his spokesman Hans Geybels. [HBVL.be]
He had probably envisioned his retirement in Castel Gandolfo...

Anyway, is he more shocked than, for instance, the people of Bruges when they found out earlier this year that their Bishop and Danneels's protegé and major ally, Roger Vangheluwe, was a pedophile and had abused, among others, his own nephew?

Sooner or later, the truth always comes to light. May God have mercy on these men who have misled the souls entrusted to them by God.

The problem with Danneels is that he's a collaborationist to the extreme ...

the problems with ''BelgaChurch'' are only symptomatic of wider problems of pedophilia facing Belgian society, especially in the Dutroux affair, which featured a dusturbing collusion of Masonic pedophile political and judiciary authorities to prevent the full truth from coming out.

IMHO, this is Dutroux : Take 2, all over again.

Yes, the Dutroux allegory is very apt, I had thought about that many times. Belgium does seem to be an international center for true pedophilia, as opposed to "mere" pederasty. But unfortunately the church as a whole will reap exactly what Danneels was allowed to sow. It's a great pity. Minding the words of our Lord, these should be capital offences.

Psychologically, Daneels must be in a state of denial since he has spent much of his episcopal career doing more or less as he pleases, doubtless with scarcely if ever a thought that he would have to account for his irresponsible behaviour publicly. Many of his actions are on record for us to behold: we have even witnessed photographic evidence of the desecration of our holy places on his account.

He will receive what he deserves. More disturbingly, however, is the fact the church authorities are not dispensing justice over him is a damning indictment of this entire post-conciliar regime. Unfortunately, for The Vatican remaining inert or defensive on a growing number of episcopal delinquents is significant of itself & corroborates the earlier observation that complicity & duplicity go to the summit of the ecclesiastical hierarchy.

How does a Cardinal like Danneels remain in a position of authority for more than 30 years? Did he hold fast to the faith of our fathers until 1983; and only after receiving the red hat become a destroyer of souls?

Seriously, that is the only question that needs to be answered. Solve that and you solve the crisis in the Church.

It is interesting to read all the commentaries on the upcoming creation of new Cardinals. For some reason there is this excitement among Catholics regarding the current Holy Father's selections. As the reasoning goes, Pope Benedict will create Cardinals that will be of one mind with him and support/promote his shepherding of the flock.

This seems hard to believe. If one believes this, then one would have to believe likewise regarding Pope Benedict's predecessor. Wouldn't one?

Again, how is it that Danneels became a Cardinal?

There is an inconsistency in the problem solving skills of many Catholics.

I think someone should tell him that we are all shocked. But he might not understand the hint.

rome should deprive him of his cardinalitial dignity. It would also be scandalous to have such a wicked traitor in a potentialconclave.

I call the attention to "Rorate-Caeli" for the recent declarations of D. Januário Torgal Ferreira, Bishop of the Portuguese Armed Forces, openly defending the homosexual behaviour and explicitly dissenting from Traditional Church Magisterium in subjects like artificial contraception.

Bishops of Portugal, despite the recent Papal visit, stil in state of pratical schism against Rome.

Is this the same Daneels that lobbied against Fatima in the 1950's? In the books "The Whole Truth about Fatima", there is a Mons. Daneels within the Vatican working hard to discredit Fatima and Sister Lucia in the eyes of Pius XII.

Because popes like Paul VI and John Paul II do sweet nohing about it...

Pray for the current Holy Father.

What does one expect from these liberal old boob?

The current pope supported Rahner & his perspectives.

Pope Benedict was a disciple of Father Rahner, but came to disagree with him on various fundamentals and finding fault with his ideas and perspectives.

Not on the Rahnerian hypothesis of everyone being a type of anonymous christian which actually served the essence of Benedict's ecumenical & inter-religious orientation which we witness clearly today as ever. Another instance is where he helped Rahner with two other theologians Frs Grillmeier & Semmelroth on the study that helped ditch the preparatory commission's document to advance Mariology in The Church from the perspective of Our Blessed Lady's mediatorial role. Of course, this was too much for the ecumenical & pluralistic agenda of the liberal modernists at the councils. The document was reduced to a summary & then omitted altogether from the constitution on the church but not in the one on revelation.

The fact of the matter is in many respects the two were mutually supportive on many issues. One would expect disagreements between any two theologians on some matters but certainly not on all.

Yes, just as I said, Pope Benedict was a disciple of Father Rahner -- but he came to disagree with him on various fundamentals and found fault with his ideas and perspectives.
