Therefore, by the authority which Christ conferred upon Peter and his Successors, and in communion with the Bishops of the Catholic Church, I confirm that the direct and voluntary killing of an innocent human being is always gravely immoral. No circumstance, no purpose, no law whatsoever can ever make licit an act which is intrinsically illicit, since it is contrary to the Law of God which is written in every human heart, knowable by reason itself, and proclaimed by the Church.

Although the teaching that priestly ordination is to be reserved to men alone has been preserved by the constant and universal Tradition of the Church and firmly taught by the Magisterium in its more recent documents, at the present time in some places it is nonetheless considered still open to debate, or the Church's judgment that women are not to be admitted to ordination is considered to have a merely disciplinary force.

Many of the more 'hard-edged' statements of his pontificate came out from the CDF rather than over his own signature, but here are three beautiful passages of his own:

'The Son of God became man in order to restore all creation, in one supreme act of praise, to the One who made it from nothing. He, the Eternal High Priest who by the blood of his Cross entered the eternal sanctuary, thus gives back to the Creator and Father all creation redeemed. 4. Since Christ brings about salvation through his Mystical Body, which is the Church, the way of salvation is connected essentially with the Church. The axiom extra Ecclesiam nulla salus—"outside the Church there is no salvation"—stated by St. Cyprian (Epist. 73, 21; PL 1123 AB), belongs to the Christian tradition and was included in the Fourth Lateran Council (DS 802), in the Bull Unam sanctam of Boniface VIII (DS 870) and in the Council of Florence (Decretum pro jacobitis, DS 1351).

The axiom means that for those who are not ignorant of the fact that the Church has been established as necessary by God through Jesus Christ, there is an obligation to enter the Church and remain in her in order to attain salvation (cf. Lumen gentium, n. 14). For those, however, who have not received the Gospel proclamation, as I wrote in the Encyclical Redemptoris missio, salvation is accessible in mysterious ways, inasmuch as divine grace is granted to them by virtue of Christ's redeeming sacrifice, without external membership in the Church, but nonetheless always in relation to her (cf. n. 10).

It is a "mysterious relationship": mysterious for those who receive the grace, because they do not know the Church and sometimes even outwardly reject her; it is also mysterious in itself, because it is linked to the saving mystery of grace, which includes an essential reference to the Church founded by the Saviour.

In order to take effect, saving grace requires acceptance, co-operation, a yes to the divine gift: and this acceptance is, at least implicitly, oriented to Christ and the Church. Thus it can also be said that sine Ecclesia nulla salus—"without the Church there is no salvation": belonging to the Church, the Mystical Body of Christ, however implicitly and indeed mysteriously, is an essential condition for salvation.

In point of fact, man does not suffer perdition only by being unfaithful to that fundamental option whereby he has made "a free self-commitment to God".113 With every freely committed mortal sin, he offends God as the giver of the law and as a result becomes guilty with regard to the entire law (cf. Jas 2:8-11); even if he perseveres in faith, he loses "sanctifying grace", "charity" and "eternal happiness".114 As the Council of Trent teaches, "the grace of justification once received is lost not only by apostasy, by which faith itself is lost, but also by any other mortal sin".

But one of the most serious reasons for the lack of interest in the missionary task is a widespread indifferentism, which, sad to say, is found also among Christians. It is based on incorrect theological perspectives and is characterized by a religious relativism which leads to the belief that "one religion is as good as another." We can add, using the words of Pope Paul VI, that there are also certain "excuses which would impede evangelization. The most insidious of these excuses are certainly the ones which people claim to find support for in such and such a teaching of the Council."

Deeds speak louder than words. John Paul II showed by his deeds, and this is how post-conciliar Catholics have understood his deeds as meaning, that all religions are mroe or less the same and equally good, that the gods and rites of all religions are of equal worth. So, in spite of the documents written and published in his name which reiterated that Jesus Christ is the only Saviour (documents which nobody read), in his 26 year reign John Paul II did convince the world that it does not matter which God one worships nor which religion one practises. He aachieved this by proclaiming St. John the Baptist protector of Islam, by kissing the Koran, by allowing himself to be exorcised by an aztec wizard and annointed by a Hindu priestess, by twice calling a prayer gathering of world religious leaders at which he himself presided, by giving episcopal ring to the Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury and blessing the crowds together with him, by allowing the papal Mass at the Vatican to be turned into a circus and a sacrilege, and by allowing the Catholic Mass worldwide to suffer all kinds of abuses, etc. etc. etc. Deeds do speak louder than words, deeds are rememberd - words are forgotten. Deeds do speak louder than words as Albertus correctly points out. It is true that blessed John Paul II allowed the Mass to become a pantomime in many American parishes. Yet it is also true that he stopped Liberation Theology from causing a Marxist revolution in Latin America, and also stood firm on abortion, euthanasia, contraception and female priestesses.
