Rorate Caeli

Albion

Aniello Falcone - Expulsion from the Temple (detail)
One day after the declaration was issued, and another leak of internal documents of the Society of Saint Pius X (FSSPX / SSPX), a letter sent to the District Superiors in the name of the Secretary General of the Society. It was first a PDF file, with an English file name, generated in the exact same kind of machine identified by Angelqueen in this post, that was then placed in a Mexican forum; then, the images of its pages were posted in an Argentine blog. The Anglophone connection did not disappear because of this, naturally.

This is just too much, and we will not post its contents, that included a summary of the General Chapter and some self-imposed conditions for a canonical regularization of the SSPX, nothing spectacularly different from what is already known, just listed in a structured fashion. Someone else may post it, but we in Rorate are just tired of this, we do not want to be a part of it. Enough.

It is disheartening to see once again that a society of traditional priests cannot keep a secret for more than 48 hours. May God have mercy on us.

Good decision not to publish it!

Thank you for continuing to be both a reliable and upstanding source of news.

Extremely disappointing in the lack of Prudence that some members of FSSPX and supporters continue to display. My hope is someday these 'people' will grow some courage and identify themselves!
Thank you Rorate for not publishing and collaborating those who have their own agenda.

All this suggests that the leaker(s) are either exceptionally sloppy -or- they want someone, such as Bp. Fellay, to know exactly who they are.

I bet they are supporters of Bishop Williamson. To think I once admired that man Sad now:-(

This leak business is getting tiresome. And there is nothing of import to expose, no secrets, no scandals. Just a page that wasn't meant for anyone else's eyes but can be made known in good time or even just for the proper asking. It is like leaking your mother's meatloaf recipe.

I can't imagine that anyone - on either "side" - has any doubt about the agent responsible on this occasion. At some point there will have to be a reckoning. This son-of-a-sedevacantist has set himself against the Roman Pontiff and his own Superior General. He must be punished.

Maybe certain quarters within the Society have a problem with disobedience.

Hmmm.

Maybe if it were done in conscience, to save the Faith...........er, wait......

This really can get complicated quickly, can't it?

Anonymous: I think maybe we have not been clear. So here it is: enough, we do not want to be part of this game. It is not a sign of self-righteouness, but just the opposite: we are poor laymen with no desire to be involved in a game whose only result will be the ridicule and mocking of all involved. Asinus asinum fricat: may the jackasses (who think they are heroes!), whoever they may be, remain far away from us.

The main difficulty in the relationship between SSPX and Rome is likely to continue to be in defining which forms of dissent are licit and which are not, in the views of the CDF, the Ecclesia Dei commission, and more broadly the Magisterium.

But let's not forget -- a regularised SSPX would be a part of that very same Magisterium -- so that THIS is the only truly crucial question for the possible regularisation.

The precise degree and exact nature of the dissent that Rome can accept is something that should be determined in private, and this dissemination of secret information pertaining to those ongoing discussions is utterly scandalous -- and causes a direct harm not only to the SSPX, but to the Church as a whole !!!

My thoughts are with you all in these troubled times.

This is hardly an easy situation for a blog that loves Catholic Tradition the way Rorate Caeli does....which is its only agenda - it is plain to see. A missed blog conversation is no big deal and in this particular case will avoid fanning the flames of confusion and misunderstanding - which we have had quite enough of - thank you very much .and which is the point of these "leaks" in my view - incomprehensible Catholics - where is your honour, faith and integrity?
At least one must make an effort with these to be a serious Catholic...

Thank you RC, a superb and most prudent decision. Don’t don their dirt work for them.

No, it is far from being an over-reaction, it is the absolutely correct Catholic thing to do. Many are indeed playing games, let RC not be part of it please, accusations flung out, without any thought or a shred of evidence are simply a parade of prejudice and show an inability to focus on the terribly important real issues, which are of eternal consequence.

Yes, disheartening indeed! Two things immediately come to mind. Firstly, the individual(s) concerned surely must know the damage being done by such leaks and the betrayal it causes.

Secondly, as RC says, since they can't seem to keep a secret, what are we to think then regarding how well they keep confidences at all. I'm not speaking of the Confessional! No, not at all, but of the discretion asked for when being confided in. Surely those who deal with them now must give it a second thought before bringing up a personal matter.

Overall, people are people, and no matter one's state, he can be just as weak or cunning as the next guy.

More prayers.

We will not have these "conditions" discussed here, Prof. Basto and others.

We have two great topics of discussion open below:

-1) The myth of the "Silent Church" and the courage of the Dutch Bishops in 1942;

-2) The dramatic situation in Syria, and how we can understand the plight and suffering of our brethren.

These are serious matters, one being of great historical interest, the other of a present and pressing nature.

The clowns who leak internal documents of the SSPX want this, to force us to discuss things on their terms: we say enough. It is not up for us to discuss them, and they are not really that interesting, all points have already been discussed and debated ad nauseam here for the past 6 years. If you wish to know, just browse through our archives.

I am fairly certain that Bishop Fellay, like many of us, knows exactly who is behind these leaks and why. I am also certain that Bishop Fellay will address the problem sooner rather than later.

This leaking of private SSPX deliberations and correspondence onto Internet blogs and forums is incredibly scandalous, the more so because some consecrated souls are involved in it. RC made the correct decision not to publish. I only wish other forum and blog moderators had followed a like course of action from the outset.

Just another example of how the crypto seds in the SSPX and they are considerable ,have gagged Bishop Fellay and the general council of the SSPX .

OLMC said...

Thank you for using good judgement.

Lily said...

There are only a couple of District Superiors who would have done this. They are dissenters and well known to Bishop Fellay and the SSPX. If anyone views the SSPX webpage, they will see that all the Superiors swore on the gospels not to leak the documents of the Chapter Meeting. And now this? I hope Bishop Fellay punishes them swiftly.

Dr. Timothy J. Williams said...

I wouldn't read too much dissension into these leaks. This is a tactic by marginalized malcontents. It is my belief that Bishop Fellay has much broader support in the Society than the other three bishops combined.

NIANTIC said...

I am sorry there has been another document leak, obviously from the UK. I hope Bishop Fellay will take swift action because these leaks only fan the flames and interfere with the discussions going on with Rome. The one(s) guilty ought to be discharged from the Society immediately because they are a cancer. A "mea culpa" is not going to cut it this time.

Martyjo, Lily, Dr. Williams -

You are right. Everybody knows who "Fr. X" is and that the faction he represents among the laity is in for a tremendous shock when its proponents realise they've been listening only to one another, and that hyperactivity on the internet doesn't translate into broad support.

Martyjo said...

One Forward Two Back

I only wish we were talking of a single "Fr. X", but the information I have suggests that Britain is at least XX rated! Still, as you say, these poor souls are not in the majority they seem to imagine themselves to be in.

I admire you even more New catholic.
This entire business is tiresome, there really are Catholics with real problems. Let us turn our energy to prayer for the Catholics suffering persecution.
I have no patience for adults (especially Priests) who act like spoiled brats..
Thank you again New Catholic, and God bless you abundantly for the work you do.

Thank you, New Catholic, for having the integrity and a true sense of what it means to be a Roman Catholic, to not publsih this. Those who are leaking this information will have a lot to answer for someday. I would think that stealing and calumny are mortal sins in this grave situation. May God have mercy on them.

Perhaps the time has come for Bishop Fellay to replace the District Superior in England. There may be a danger that poor " perfidious Albion" will no longer have an SSPX Apostolate at all unless this action be taken.

Carlos said...

Why they keep sending these letters to Williamson or his friends?

I just wish Father X and Bishop X would do the honourable thing and knuckle under or leave. As an Englishman, I am appalled that they are giving the impression that English traditionalists are unbalanced extremists.
