Sorry for the unrelated comment but I just wanted to thank you profoundly for your banner tribute to Fr Francis Mourad whose martyrdom has been shamefully ignored by the mainstream media in the West.

There is a terrible video available of this martyr's death going the rounds. It doesn't need to be watched. St. Francis Mourad, pray for us.

It's horrific. I was crying it was so awful.

But those who support the arming of the 'Syrian rebels' by the Western governments should perhaps watch to see exactly who their taxes will be funding...

All Americans should be forced to watch every second of that video!

Will the new encyclical be available to read online at the Vatican website?

Savages. Imagine the rude awakening they are in for when they die and mohammed is nowhere to be seen and they are standing before Jesus Christ.

The Crusades don't seem so "wrong" now do they?

Perhaps it's just you Americans and your fixation with TV and violence, I don't know.

A painting of St. Edmund being shot to death by Viking arrows isn't the same as seeing some long-haired and bearded nutter sawing a man's head off for real.

What happened to people's imaginations, or to their sensitivity, for goodness sake?

Interesting that the retired pope helped to write the encyclical which in itself seems licit for the reigning pope to ask this help from anybody; however, it does beg the question of what authority Benedict XVI is exercising in his mind or that of Pope Francis. Is there a new concept of "Pope Emeritus" or even of the papacy? Some could posit that the pen of the pope is a mere functional extension of the college of bishops.

If this were the sole work of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVl, I would be looking forward to reading it. But since Pope Francis used his own pen on it, I fear reading it.

Yes. We will post the link here when it is published this Friday.

"however, it does beg the question of what authority Benedict XVI is exercising in his mind or that of Pope Francis."

There is no question to beg. Having abdicated the papal throne and been succeeded by the Holy Father Francis, Benedict XVI has no papal authority that he can exercise. The encyclical to be published this Friday depends for its teaching authority on its having been signed and issued by the reigning Roman Pontiff, Pope Francis.

RC, my sadness and outrage just can't subside. Even some muslims are furious with H.H. and expressed an atmost contepmt for filthy vatican rodents and vowed even to avenge this new martyrs' FRANCIS' death. RC, Holy Chuch has been assailed by these semi intelectual garbologists and dupes, many of them professional careerists on churchs' money. These are the ones who have the nerve to regularly attack trads even on these forrum. Sainty marter Francis, please pray for me, a sinner and pray for pope Francis of Rome!

I hope our Bishops will draw some courage from this great martyr!!! They can't even summons the guts to truly resist the Obamacare debacle being forced down our throats. Perhaps if Cardinal Dolan was over there, he would have prevented such tragedy by inviting those criminals to dinner and "keep their faith". How much outrage are we hearing out of Rome? Maybe a good penance for Cardinals like Mahoney would be to be instructed on sound doctrine by SSPX then sent to Syria on a mission.

'Twill be interesting to find out how this papal encyclical reads. I think we will recognise immediately the 'fingerprints' of Benedict XVI in contrast to those of Pope Francis. I am hoping it will reflect almost solely those of the former pope, a clear-thinking, brilliant theologian who can simplify the most complex concepts for the ordinary person.

Having an encyclical on Faith from Benedict with the imprimatur of Pope Franciscus will be excellent for the Church. Benedict is the most powerful intellect available and Franciscus the reigning Pope. Good things will come out of its study, which we should all do.

Just one point on Fr. François Mourad: WE never claimed in any post that he was decapitated; our post of June 25, 2013, on his martyrdom was based on the news released by the Custodian of the Holy Land on June 24, and pre-dates by several days the release of a video supposedly depicting his death - which is probably not the case. In any event, his martyrdom is not in question, only the specific circumstances surrounding it.

According to LIVE LEAK blog article, father Francis was shot by terrorists inside the chappel while defending nuns and the property and he is a martyr like many other syrian christians. None's got greater love than he who lays his live for others. The Vatican silence still persists. Rest in peace father Francis!
