The following was sent to Rorate from the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP):
The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter in Mexico is excited to tell you about their new project.
We are in the process of purchasing a new parochial house and formation center. This new property will enable the FSSP to greatly expand their pastoral activity in Guadalajara. Most importantly it will be the first stage in our plan to open a first year house of formation in the near future for Spanish speaking candidates. Currently seminarians can pursue their priestly formation in English at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton, Nebraska or in French or German at St. Peter´s Seminary in Wigratzbad, Germany.
This future house of formation will open the doors to expansion of the FSSP and the Traditional Latin Mass in Latin America, a part of the world that has largely yet to see the fruits of Summorum Pontificum and where this great treasure of the Church remains largely unknown.
But those who have come to know, the response has been impressive. We receive many requests to celebrate Masses from all across Mexico and Latin America and a steady flow of vocational inquires. There is great demand, but right now we have just five priests working in Latin America between our two apostolates in Mexico and one in Colombia.
Recently, when a number of people started coming to our church after several parishes tried to impose communion in the hand because of a supposed scare of spreading disease, they responded that it was so beautiful to see Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament treated in the way he ought to be treated.
The people in Latin America are still very traditional in their hearts and so there is great potential. Sadly various strands of protestantism have been startling progress across Latin American.
This new house will enable us to begin forming the laity with sound doctrine and beautiful liturgy, and soon will enable us to form traditional priests here in Latin America.
