Today is Laetare Sunday, that moment when the sobriety of Lent is temporarily put aside and the joy of Easter is anticipated. It is one of two days when the Church sets down rose vestments to be worn, if they are available. What precise shade is liturgical rose? There is no precise requirement, nor is the shade intended to emulate the various colours of the rose flower. Adjacent a vestment is pictured of one darker hue of rose and perhaps readers might find this more attractive than the brighter pink.
