Events: Bishop Parkes to attend TLM in Pensacola

From Fr. Pérez, pastor:

His Excellency, Bishop Gregory L. Parkes, D.D., J.C.L. of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Florida, will attend the High Mass at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Pensacola on Sunday, September 8th at 10:30 AM (Central). This will be the first time a Bishop of this Diocese ever has attended this Rite of the Mass since the foundation of this Diocese. There will be a reception in his honor as well as the Blessed Mothe Birthday in the parish Hall following the Mass.

  1. Something good seems to be happening. Since the election of Pope Francis I have been reading a'lot of positive things concerning the TLM. The gathering in Rome, the gathering in Mexico, a Bishop talking about the serious reinterpretation of Vatican Council ll, Cardinal Casper calling for the reinterpretation of V2 because of ambiguities in the language of the Council Documents, isn't Cardinal Casper a liberal? I have been personally hearing others more frequently voice their complaints about what liberals have done to the Mass. Could the election of Pope Francis have had a positive effect on the revival of Catholic Tradition? Could the actions and views of a Pope of the modernist persuasion be snapping Catholics out of the modernist nightmare? God works in mysterious ways. Could Francis without knowing, be causing the increasing cry for Tradition from laity up to the Cardinals? I was sure things were going to get worse, but I'm seeing the opposite happening. May God help us to keep fighting the good fight. We have Truth as our weapon.

  2. God Bless Him and we pray that more number of bishops may emulate him . Heaven will rejoice when he encourages more number of priests to celebrate TLM.
May God Save America from all Natural disasters occurring one after another . It is unbelievable that churches are being closed in several dioceses in alarming numbers.
May Catholics hold on to their faith and those who have gone astray may return .

  3. The Church in Florida has been, sad to say, a wasteland for decades - bad liturgy, bad catechesis, bad bishops, ugly churches.

But there have been signs of life, and not just for tradition. First there was Wenski. Then the advent of Ave Maria, a troubled institution with charismatic leadership but mostly traditional students and staff, which brought in the IPT, chant workshops, and pressure for the TLM. Then Bishop Dewayne. Then Favalora's sudden departure. The expanded FSSP presence under Fr Fryar. And more and more events like this, unthinkable just a decade ago.

Don't get me wrong: there's still a long, long way to go. But this is good news, and I am pleased to hear it.

  4. I think Cardinal Kasper just let the cat out of the bag by stating what many trads had thought, the Council documents were written to be interpeted by the liberals after the Council. I like Bishop Schneider's idea of a syllabus for Vatican 2 and it telling us what is dogmatic and what merely pastoral
