Moloch Loses One Round: Roe

Memorial of Unborn Children, Madison, Wisconsin (Martin Hudáček)

Or so it seems, if the final decision of the Supreme Court of the United States in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health resembles the February draft leaked most likely by a liberal clerk to the website Politico late last night, a draft in which the monstrous 1973 Roe v. Wade and 1992 Planned Parenthood v. Casey decisions are explicitly overturned.

If so, and if confirmed, may God be praised in his Angels and in his Saints!

As things stand, officially, we do not know exactly what the final opinion will look like. It seems unlikely that the liberal leaker did this in order to influence a change in the view of a specific Justice -- if anything, leaking it now would have the opposite effect. What is more likely is that it has now become clear that the positions of the Justices are final, and the leaker decided to "act" in order to achieve political results -- both in the current Congress, while the abortion-favoring party still has thin majorities in both houses and the presidency; as well as in a future Congress, by giving a head start to the rhetorical shrieking of the abortion-favoring party in the November congressional midterm elections.

The probable decision, if it confirms the leaked draft, will by no means end the scourge of abortion in America. It will only remand the matter completely to the States, their legislatures and their voters. Since most states where most abortions occur will remain abortion-friendly states, the total number of abortions will probably not decrease considerably.

But: undoubtedly lives will be saved, as the example of the still standing Texas law has made clear. The secondary function of the Law to also constrain individuals to pursue moral choices will also provide guidance to individuals in the Pro-life states. So, yes, if the final opinion is confirmed, the efforts of millions and millions of pro-life citizens will have not been in vain: despite the millions of children who will still be killed in pro-death states, each unborn life saved anywhere in America will have been worth it.
