The Attempt to Ban the Latin Mass Continues (Spearheaded Now By Roche and Viola, With Francis Having Lost Interest)

The Traditional Latin Mass at the Cathedral of St. Eugene in Santa Rosa, CA was once packed and overflowing each Sunday with faithful Catholics.

Here is a picture of children joyfully preparing for a Sung Latin Mass on Christmas 2022:

This represents the transmission of Catholic belief and culture that is so desperately needed- and lacking- in today's world (especially the West).

Now, the Vatican (specifically, Cardinals Roche and Viola) have ordered this beautiful liturgy- the one that sustained this Catholic community- cancelled

Recently, Roche and Viola seem to have targeted TLMs celebrated at metropolitan cathedrals (such as the horrible cancellation of the TLM at St. Mary's Cathedral in Austin, TX). Metropolitan cathedrals, with their grandeur, are the types of beautiful churches that need a regular TLM the most. A regular TLM should be mandatory in these churches- not forcibly suppressed.

Francis has not met with Cardinal Roche since the 2023 rescript, and seems to have lost interest in the project of suppressing the Latin Mass. Yet Roche and Viola continue their misguided and self-defeating attempt to deprive the faithful of the Traditional Latin Mass. Fortunately, it is clearer than ever that they will fail in the attempt- but not before they bring spiritual suffering to many good Catholics. Let us pray for all those affected by this persecution, and for its swift reversal under the next pope.
