Confirmed by Local Radio: Bishop Ronald Hicks to be named new Archbishop of New York!

The rumors had been floating around since yesterday, but the local radio station of Joliet, Illinois, has confirmed it: current Bishop of Joliet, Ronald Hicks, is to be named to the great American See, New York -- to be announced in the coming days, maybe as soon as tomorrow?

WJOL, the main local radio station in Joliet, Illinois, has announced it in an exclusive report, posted moments ago:

EXCLUSIVE: Bishop Hicks To Become Archbishop of New York

December 16, 2025 1:34PM CST

Sources tell WJOL that the Bishop of the Diocese of Ronald Hicks will become the next Bishop of New York. Hicks will replace the current Archbishop Timothy Dolan, who submitted his resignation earlier this year.

The appointment is expected to become official by Pope Leo XIV in the coming days.

Hicks has overseen the Diocese of Joliet since 2020.

Hicks, a native Chicagoan (like Leo XIV himself), has generally been considered a very good bishop by the local Catholics of Joliet.
