Rorate will eventually weigh in on the probable consecrations of the Society of Saint Pius X. What we know at the moment is very limited, especially from the Holy See, which has remained very circumspect.
After NOT having made any consecrations during the Francis years, the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) should, one would hope, display more patience towards Leo XIV. He is relatively young, and has arrived not long ago.
But Francis left one extremely difficulty legacy to his successor: the collapse of Vatican credibility.
We have always been clear we favored an agreement of some sort, and regularization. We still do.
But, after Francis, who can blame any group, be it the SSPX or any of the Easterners, for instance, for no wanting to be under a deranged despot? After what Francis did even to separate institutions, as the Sovereign Order of Malta, or to extremely loyal institutions, such as Opus Dei, or any bishop he simply did not like, as if they mere papal local managers (from South America to the US to Europe) -- in complete contradiction to everything the apparently unchangeable Vatican II said about bishops -- who can blame any group?
We will take centuries to realize the immense damage Francis did to simple Roman habits, as pragmatism and predictability and letting things stand.
