In the prologue to his Gospel, frequently proclaimed in the past few days, the Evangelist John writes, "the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it" (i,5). It is the drama of the rejection of Christ, which often manifests itself even today, as in the past, in so many different ways. The forms of the rejection of God in the contemporary age are perhaps more insidious and dangerous: from clear rejection to indifference, from scientific Atheism to the presentation of a Jesus considered "modernised", or rather, post-modernised. A man-Jesus, reduced to [the position of] a simple man of his age, a "master of wisdom" and deprived of his divinity, that is, a Jesus so idealized as to resemble a fable character.
