Divinum Officium Advent Update

Dear Friends of the Divine Office:

We at the Divinum Officium Project would like to thank everyone for their continued support and prayer for the success of this project.

As we prepare for the coming of the Word Incarnate during the Advent Season, what better way to prepare than to familiarize oneself with the Church's liturgical texts, and harmonize our own prayer with the Church's worship? Throughout the Advent season, the Church proposes for our consideration in the Mass and in the Divine Office the prophecies of Isaias, who beautifully foreshadowed the coming of Emmanuel, God-With-Us, He who will be born of the Virgin and bring about the gift of salvation.

We have indeed made progress in the five months since Laszlo Kiss's passing to life eternal. We have updated several hundred files of liturgical texts, and have switched to UTF-8 encoding for our files, which is a somewhat more universal standard of character encoding. We are in the process of adding some local feasts, particularly those for the United States and Canada. We are also uploading the 1960 "forma brevior" Masses for the Ember Days.

We wish to extend our deepest thanks to all who have collaborated thus far on the project as well as those who send us error reports. We extend our plea for help again for people who might be willing to help us with digitizing the Divine Office into different languages.

Those who use iPhones, the iPod Touch or iPads may also find the app "Breviarium Meum" useful. This app was developed by the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate and utilizes solely the 1960 edition of the site. One can conveniently download a week's worth of texts of the Divine Office. It is updated regularly via the Divinum Officium Google Code repository. The editors of this app have been of great assistance in pointing out errors and submitting patches.

Please follow us on Twitter at @DivinumOfficium. If there are any serious errors to the Office on a given day that cannot be fixed within a reasonable amount of time, we will tweet about them. We also tweet when the site is having a major revision uploaded.

God bless you!
