Recent Interviews on the Undeniably Resurgent Latin Mass

Documentary filmmaker Cameron O'Hearn interviewed me at the end of June in a far-ranging conversation about various aspects of Catholic liturgical tradition. The conversation first appeared live on Facebook, and afterwards was published on YouTube:

New SoundCloud Page for Audio of Dr Kwasniewski’s Lectures and Interviews

For a number of years, readers have been asking me to make available video and audio files of my lectures and interviews. This is indeed something I have wanted to do, but there are two limitations: one is my technological ineptitude, and the other is the need for planning in advance to have recordings made at events, which doesn’t always happen.

Nevertheless, over the past couple of years a good many such recordings have in fact been made, and I finally created a dedicated SoundCloud page on to which most of them have now been uploaded (and more will be added). Below I have listed the content currently available. I encourage you to explore and to recommend the site to others who appreciate audio content. All files are freely downloadable.

You Suggest: Audio downloads of Franciscan meditations

Our friends at Romanitas Press have a compelling new offering: Learn how the Church's Liturgical Year relates to you through the eyes of Franciscan spirituality with these audio recordings from the 7-volume set of Franciscan Meditations by Capuchin, Fr. Bernardin Goebel.

Each MP3 recording features an insightful, but brief segment about a day in the Church's Liturgical Year (per the 1962 Roman calendar) and how it relates to your personal sanctification.

Want to grow in holiness through the Church's sacred liturgy but don't have much time to read? Then these audio downloads are just for you.

CLICK HERE to order. Each costs just 99 cents.

Los Angeles Traditional Mass community celebrates 10 years of Summorum

To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Summorum Pontificum, the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter in Los Angeles has created a video. In spite of not yet having their own church, the video shows the impact that the Mass and the FSSP community has made in the lives of the people of Los Angeles.

You Suggest: Silence & Song Retreat

The Australian Sacred Music Association has put together some footage of their recent Silence and Songs Retreat and recorded some of the liturgies at the retreat that took place during Epiphany this year.

Sales of the CD will go to support the new traditional Benedictine monastery in Tasmania, Notre Dame Priory. Notre Dame is a monastic foundation, under the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Hobart, the Most Reverend Julian Porteous. Dedicated to God by means of the vows of religion (poverty, chastity, obedience, stability, conversion of life), monks spend their time in prayer and labour.

Audio: On the Sixth Generation - Generational spirits of the Lost Generation to the one currently being born

The great Father Chad Ripperger has delivered a powerful talk on the demonic, how demons attack certain generations, how they are passed from parent to child and generation to generation, and what we can do to prevent this. It's well worth a listen.

We would even recommend sending it to lukewarm Catholics who you know are history buffs as it could prove interesting to them from a historical perspective and wake them up to their faith -- and the dangers that lie ahead.

Also: Click here to visit the main website of Sensus Traditionis. It's a stock pile of wonderful sermons, conferences, audio and video. And the written text documents mentioned in the above conference on generations is housed on the site as well.

Last, please pray for Fr. Ripperger and his work.

Encouragement for homeschoolers

For those who homeschool, especially for those either just starting or with all fairly young children in their early educational years, we don't have to tell you -- it's hard. It's really hard.

If you read some of the homeschooling blogs, while they mean well, they often leave you with the feeling that homeschooling should always be this wonderful, permanent joy. It should always feel like that painting of mother in her chair with the perfectly behaved little ones at her knees listening to each and every word emanating from her mouth.

Then there's reality.

The reality is, for many, homeschooling isn't just an option, it's the only option. It's a spiritual life or death situation for your children. You know you can't send them to public school, where they'll lose their souls. You know you can't send them to the local "Catholic" school, where they'll lose their faith. Yet, that doesn't make your day to day any easier.

A traditional priest has recorded a short but very inspirational reminder of why you homeschool and why you must keep at it.

Cardinal Burke's visit to Krakow, Poland - Pontifical Mass (with video)

Cardinal Burke was recently in Krakow, Poland to release his book Divine Love Made Flesh: The Holy Eucharist as the Sacrament of Charity. Cardinal Dziwisz warmly welcomed him, and he celebrated a Pontifical Mass in the city. (Video below)

Synod '15: Three days weeks of Darkness

A traditional mission priest and friend of Rorate has sent us the audio of a powerful sermon. While recorded before the beginning of the Synod of Sex, it would behoove all Catholics to listen to it, reflect on it during these three weeks and be motivated to pray the Rosary.

A description of the sermon reads:

"Before the Day of the Lord, the devil will have his hour. Heaven pleads with us below to pray the Holy Rosary during that dark hour. Each bead of the Holy Rosary is like a star that, along with the Morning Star, Our Lady, lights up the darkest night. The Holy Rosary is a scourge that beats back our enemies, filled with small stones that knock down any Goliath. But the Holy Rosary is not just essential equipment for dark times, but also a sure means of ushering in a certain age of peace. Each bead is like a seed that is planted which will bring forth, one day, beautiful roses and pure lilies. An example of the Holy Rosary getting us through dark times and bringing in a time of restoration is seen in the story of Our Lady of Pompeii and Blessed Bartolo Longo."

Videos show two very different views of role of Church in the world

Two videos caught our eye recently.

The first video is a new seminary project update from the Society of St. Pius X (which serves more as a traditional explanation of the priesthood) and the second a video with the head of the Franciscans explaining Laudato Si.

WARNING: The Minister General sings Laudato Si and it may be nearly impossible to get it out of your head once you've heard it.

This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do the things that I command you. I will not now call you servants: for the servant knoweth not what his lord doth. But I have called you friends: because all things whatsoever I have heard of my Father, I have made known to you.

You have not chosen me: but I have chosen you; and have appointed you, that you should go, and should bring forth fruit; and your fruit should remain: that whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. These things I command you, that you love one another. If the world hate you, know ye, that it hath hated me before you. If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember my word that I said to you: The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also.

Video Suggestion: "Archbishop Lefebvre - A Documentary" online

From a reader:

Many are aware of the role of French Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre as the consecrator of bishops in the events that took place in Écône, Switzerland, on June 30, 1988, in a climate of extreme tension with the Holy See. What is less well known is his work as the most important character of the Church in the continent where its growth is truly explosive in our age -- Africa -- in the crucial decades of deconolization, and that he set in place around forty dioceses in the continent, before being a leading figure during the Second Vatican Council.

EWTN video on SSPX-related Dominican Sisters of Fanjeaux and Students: "Their hearts are in Rome"

The Dominicans of Fanjeaux are a religious order of nuns, whose chaplains belong to the Society of Saint Pius X (FSSPX / SSPX), and whose main activity is the education and formation of Catholic girls.

The sisters and their students went to a pilgrimage to Rome in February, and EWTN covered it. Bp. Juan Ignacio Arrieta Ochoa, Secretary to the Pontifical Council of Legislative Texts, is interviewed, and says: "Their hearts are in Rome."
